What we need to do is keep a closer eye on loner kids that get expelled from high school, that seems to be the school shooter demographic.

here is my take on this recent shooting: yes it's a tragedy, but is this any worse than HS age kids in Memphis, Atlanta, Detroit, Miami, Oakland, Baltimore, etc.etc. getting shot up or seeing their friends shot up after school hours or on weekends? White kids are getting shot up and HOLY SHIT! WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING YESTERDAY ABOUT THIS!
So poor minority kids see gun violence on a regular basis? It seems many on the left are hand-wringing when it's convenient or when the media says "jump" so they can ask "how high?"

While there's some truth in that we can only respond to what "the media" reports, the fact that schools are getting shot up on the regular is far more important than the demographics.

Santa Fe High School student after shooting: 'Eventually it was going to happen here'
A Santa Fe High School student said she wasn't surprised by a mass shooting at her Texas school.

"It's been happening everywhere. I always kind of felt like eventually it was going to happen here too," the unidentified female student told reporters outside the school.

At least one gunman opened fire at the Houston-area high school Friday morning, killing at least 10 people, according to Gov. Greg Abbott. It occurred mere months after a school shooting that left 17 people dead in Parkland, Florida, and there were several other instances of school gun violence around the country in the interim.

"I wasn't surprised, I was just scared," the Santa Fe student added.

Sorry Spaceturkey - but we have many thousands of schools with many thousands of kids. The odds of any one kid getting shot at school are incredibly low. That said we have many large cities with a shit-ton of "disenfranchised" neighborhoods where people get shot constantly - but it's so common it's not national/international news. My point is non-school shootings are the much larger problem yet because they happen at a constant rate, nobody on either side of the political spectrum really seems to give a shit. Sorry if I drifted into "math" territory because "emotional" territory rules the roost in the red room.

There's basically two positions on guns that I can take seriously:
1. They are causing an enormous amount of grief in the US and something needs to be done
2. They are causing an enormous amount of grief in the US, but an individual's right to self defense is so important that they're still worth having

Everything else, including especially fantasies about how even more guns would solve the problems, arming teachers and the like, is just plain stupid and not worth engaging with.

It's pretty much the same with libertarianism. Heck, I can see the appeal with the philosophy (ok, calling it a philosophy still feels a bit wrong), but please don't pretend a market that is as free as possible will bring the maximum benefit to the economy (or even society)
