Interestingly enough (or not), the board shit the bed not long after I started having ^that^ problem.
Just Lanzman proving how shit he is at runnung a board (and, no, I am not making a case for my ownership.).
They're back!! Just had a couple again after one earlier this morning. All seemingly confined to the History Cried Today thread.
We keep running out of disk space, apparently. I'm not sure if this is disk cache or actual "physical" disk space. I'd be willing to chip in to upgrading the server, or the software.
It doesn't actually cost very much to upgrade our disk space. I've done it once, sometime around December IIRC. Probably do it again soon.
Hey guys, the site was down for me starting last night. I think there was some sort of problem with it.
I demand a refund! Whenever the board goes down I realize just how much we take this place for granted, and just how much we enjoy our virtual playground.
A board with over a million posts and countless hacks from the dawn of time oughta go down from time to time. IMHO it's time for spring cleaning.
I keep bringing up the issue of migrating to a more current version of vBulletin, but people remind me of the hacks and tweaks we'd lose.
I don't think anybody is so concerned about that actually. What hacks would we really lose anyway? Most of them are baked in to the latest version.
This. Do the upgrade, see if people even notice/care about the hacks. I doubt it. If there is an outcry then worry about adding it.
Thirded. Get the basic functions working reliably again, then consider adding bells and whistles if needed whenever it seems comfortable to do so.
Virtual? I don't know about you, but I seem to have tubes running from the board into the back of my brain.
I got several of these a couple of nights ago. There was nothing I could do about it except wait for it to heal itself.
Getting a database error on the "is El Chup drunk?", thread. Totally can't access it. Probably not missing much, but...y'know.
This post, right before the huge crash, is very amusing. Kind of like the captain of the Titanic saying "Really? I haven't seen a single iceberg today." And yesterday, I saw only one. It lasted the entire day, but there was only one... Edited to add: But I've seen three so far since we got back, including two in posting this.
On FB there was some talk of an upgrade. I assume you'd want to go to the next VB, but a couple of the forums I have use something called XenForo. It's much better IMO, and it also has a much more dynamic rep system, which includes showing both pos and neg reps (and also other options if you want), which should keep the children happy.
