Fucking hell, why are you always so impatient? It was the same shit when you were trying to implement your plan for changing the board features.

    What gives?

I don't view Anc as being impatient. This thread is over a month old, for fuck's sake. Not to mention these database errors have been occurring for many, many months. It's a serious concern and is very detrimental to the board--it has taken the board out of commission for several days in the last year. And on top of that, our current version of vBulletin is over four years out of date. So get your panties out of a wad.

    "A serious concern?"

Oh, do fuck off with that shite. What both you and he are displaying is a sense of entitlement. The only "serious concern" you have where WF is concerned is whether or not someone continues to pay for it's existence, be it Lanzman or another. What you and Anc don't seem to understand is that WF is neither a product for you to consume (since you are not a paying customer), nor is it some sort of public democracy. It is a privately run board paid for by one man - and whether you approve of his ownership or not, it nonetheless remains entirely his prerogative to do things on his own timescale, even if that means the board breaks down for 3 months instead of 3 days. Quite simply, it's solely up to him and nobody else is entitled to demand a thing until they start paying for the place.

Oh, and Anc's implication that the lack of board upgrade is down to laziness is the height of petulance. He wants something, but he doesn't mind biting the hand that feeds him while he's at it. :jayzus:

If you must know, last time there was a major crash I not only offered to pay for the upgrade but also to do all the work (I have a friend that is a CTO for an internet hosting company, is tech admin for a couple boards, he agreed to do the upgrade and takes payment in beer which I would also pay for) via a Facebook PM to Lanz.

    He never responded.

I'm tired of this absentee landlord shit. If Lanz doesn't want to do the work/pay the money to keep the board running then he should at least let those who are willing and able to to do so.

So? Why should he? He has no obligation to put your proposal into effect or take your money. It's his place. If he considers your suggestions to not be worth it, that's up to him.

See, this is the point you aren't getting and where you cross the line. I don't much care for how he runs this board, hell I voted him worst of all the ones we've had, but ultimately it's still up to him so I'm not going to stomp by feet and make demands.

Rather than saying "I'm tired of this shit", you should actually be saying "I'm actually quite grateful he's being paying his money for years so that the board is still here for me to have this little whinge over".

That's what you are not grasping. So you offered to pay for the upgrade and do the work. Well, good for you. But there would be no upgrade to implement if Lanzman hadn't been paying for it all these years. He is under no obligation to listen to any of your suggestions. If you don't like how the place is run then go elsewhere or set up a rival board. After all, the latter is essentially how we all ended up here in the first place. It may be that people would follow you to nuWordforge if it were a reliable improvement. But, in the meantime, you don't really have any rights to demand that he do anything with this version of WF.

Lanzman is a caretaker. He didn't build the board and has done little to nothing to improve it. Others are willing to step up if he does have the time or energy for it. But hey, if he needs to own it, if he cant pass it on like the three other caretakers before him, fine, least he could do is allow people to fix the damn thing.

Lanzman is not the caretaker. He is the owner. Whilst it is entirely true to say that without the membership this place would die, it doesn't mean he ceases to be the owner. He bought the board outright. It's his whether people like it or not. It's his call, and only his call, as to what happens to it.

Again, offering to help out is all well and good, and very gallant. Hell, I made my own suggestions for which software to upgrade to myself. That isn't what I am questioning. Rather the concept of getting angry and moody over his lack of action that is what I am saying is the problem. It isn't anybody else's choice but his, whether we like it or not. I really don't see what's so tough about that concept.

Every owner has been merely a caretaker. Until Lanz in fact we had a history of changing ownership every couple of years. Hell we even have an example of the the board being stolen from one owner when they proved to be bad steward. If you think wordforge is the URL and the database then you have a poor understanding of wordforge.

So if I take a while to look at options I'm taking too long, but if I make a change quickly I'm being too precipitous and not taking the concerns of the membership into account.

There's just no winning with you, is there?

    Oh, and some links.

A board fucked up thread BACK IN AUGUST OF LAST YEAR where you said you were thinking about a board upgrade. (How long do you need to think about these things before acting? Gonna go a whole 'nother year of this BS?)

A poll held in January where those that cared enough to vote voted 3:1 to upgrade over keeping hacks. (Guess there weren't many concerns from the membership.)

Another board fucked thread from Jan where an upgrade is brought up.

So it's not as if I sprang the upgrade on you when I sent you the PM offering to pay for it and do all the work 3 weeks ago. It's not like it came out of the blue and you've needed all this time to ponder it. So what the fuck IS actually the hold up?

I must admit I'm curious myself, by losing the hacks the upgrade process should be a lot easier.

It was the "losing all our hacks" argument that persuaded me not to upgrade last time. This time I'm thinking technical issues are sort of compelling the upgrade.

Hey Nick, you want to help O2C with it if/when I buy the software?
