I haven't advocated gun control though. See, this is exactly what I said above. The responses always is dismissal, fingers in the ears and a strawman misrepresentation of the other person's position. You have immediately come along and proven everything I said in my post with great ease.

I am not pro-gun control per se. I am pro-debate. I don't believe your problems lie in the right to own guns because that right exists in many European countries without any great problem. I believe the issue in America is the cultural attitude towards them and that has always been my position. That isn't about taking guns out of people's hands. That's about looking at and redefining the cultural attitude towards their use, their ownership and, in some respects, their glorification. That is a distinctly different position from banning or controlling guns and your refusal to even read what people are actually saying instead of a tired strawman approach just further helps to illustrate that issue. To me, the irrational refusal of some people in America to even begin to have the discuss is a source of great incredulity for me. Still, it perfectly illustrates why America politics are so bi-partisan with this sort of "whoever shouts loudest wins" approach.

Meh. My individual rights are not up to debate and inviting redefining culture is the foot in the door to muddle it all up.

    So no I'm good thanks.

Whatever! As long as we have one of these we don't have to limit our weapons to one of those. :D
It doesn't upset me so much as amuses me. Foreigners get all wrapped around the axle over
the US "gun culture." Is it that fucking fascinating or what?

And given captain moonshine rated my slave post dumb, he obviously hasn't watched the video we are meant to be using as the basis of the discussion!

It was funny enough, but the argument that you can't use a firearm to defend your home unless you just happen to be aiming it at the front door just as somebody tries to kick it in always looses me.

He's Australian and probably doesn't know shit about guns other than what TV and the movies and shrill libs tell him.
His knowledge is most likely limited to "guns go BANG! Orphaned children cry." :drama:

BTW if you use "loose" like that again I will sick an Australian comic on you to riff about your grammer!

"Nobody's going to break into your house to murder you, they just want your TV." :dayton:
Really now? Well that might be in Australia - before their gun ban, (taking all "massacres"
off the table) what was their violent crime rate? By violent I mean aggravated assault, armed robbery, manslaughter, murder, etc?

But see, it boils down to our general culture of violence (at least compared to most of the Western world). We could remove all the guns from everyone that isn't on-duty military, and we'd still get people showing their asses here.

And this isn't me hand waving this as a reason for uncontrolled gun ownership. I like the idea of registering those with gun permits over the weapons themselves which, as time as proven over and over again, will almost always lead to measures for confiscation. But anyone that thinks our culture doesn't fetishize weapons--on both sides of the argument--is smoking crack. :borg:

But to that end we fetishize many things - cars, celebrities, booze, etc.etc.
I am glad you see the logic in registering the person versus the weapon.
Of course if you buy a new weapon they run a background check and you are out the
door in ten minutes with the gun - or you didn't pass and you don't get a gun.

What I don't get is banning certain categories or types of weapons. A crazy person
will kill with any and all types of guns just as effectively as any other.
