Is this one, IMO. A bit drawn out but it all adds to the suspense. Movie-making perfection. What's your favourite movie scene?
I dunno about best but the one that had the biggest effect on me as a kid was the deathstar exploding in star wars Booooom Woohoo!!
The part of Serenity where we see the ol' girl entering atmo - that was a victory dance of sorts for us Browncoats.
I'm a sucker for the Rhett and Scarlett kiss as Atlanta burns. I don't know if it's "the best" of anything, but it was the first to pop into my head at this question.
I love Frank N Furter's first entrance in Rocky Horror, the whole 'Royale with Cheese' scene from Pulp Fiction, the scene where Uma Thurmann is treated for her cocaine overdose in same, our first sight of the Enterprise in TMP, Spock's death in TWOK, the ending of Casablanca, the 'friends of Italian Opera' stuff from Some Like It Hot, ending of same.... God, I could go on all night...
She's my daughter! [slap] She's my sister! [slap] She's my daughter and my sister! ... Forget it Jake, it's Chinatown.
Restaurant scene from WHEN HARRY MET SALLY. Ending of same (Billy Crystal's speech). Even tho I don't really like westerns, when DJANGO finally reveals what's in the coffin That ridiculously overstaged scene between Bruce Willis and Liv Tyler in ARMAGEDDON (pan to Godspeed Apollo 1). The 'car chase' in SIDEWAYS The end of CASABLANCA. Every TV spot I ever directed Pretty much anything David Fincher ever touched. The tower scene in VERTIGO. Kevin Spacey at the garden party in K-PAX. The baptism sequence in GODFATHER (incidentally I always wake up for it just in time). Indy shooting that sword guy The beginning of SAVING PRIVATE RYAN. Chaplin playing with the Earth ball in GREAT DICTATOR. Russell Crowe's speech in GLADIATOR (...father to a murdered son...). I am Spartacus! End of PLANET OF THE APES. Toilet scene in TRAINSPOTTING. THE BIG LEBOWSKI as a whole. And tons more. There are so many. The greatest? Impossible to say.
Ripley taking the big plunge with the Alien Queen baby bursting through her chest at the end of Alien 3. It would've been the perfect ending to a great trilogy if FOX hadn't decided to revive the franchise with the mediocre Alien: Resurrection.
gods, I can't think of just one... But the most powerful to me as a kid is a tie between charlett's death in the animated charletts web, and the death of littlefoot's mom in land befor time...
Probably my all-time favorite...if you haven't seen it, sorry; this is a HUGE spoiler: Harry Lime appears in 'The Third Man.' Another great one: Victor Lazlo and co. drowning out the Nazis by singing La Marsellaise in 'Casablanca' From my favorite movie of all time: Hannibal psychologically dissects Clarice in 'The Silence of the Lambs.' Kinda childish, I know, but somehow the combination of the theme song and Optimus Prime putting foot to ass in 'Transformers' always makes me smile. For my money, one of the best action sequences EVER is the helicopter rescue from 'Superman: The Movie.'
From Goodfellas: "I'm funny how? How am I funny? Am I A clown? I'm here for your amusement?" That is some menacing shit right there.
The "Human Sacrifice" scene in Fight Club summarizes everything about that movie. Probably my favorite scene, which I have to watch anytime it's on is the finale of Stalag 17, where Sefton sets everyone straight.
What the heck, a few more great scenes... He'll be back: Ahnuld wipes out the police station in 'The Terminator.' A great movie with lots of memorable lines, but I love the battle of wits from 'The Princess Bride.' Near and dear to my heart: Harry confronts the Scorpio killer and delivers his famous speech in 'Dirty Harry.' Your next witticism may be your last, Mr. Bond: 007 faces a dilemma in 'Goldfinger.' The terrific launch sequence from 'Apollo 13.' The music is perfect and I get a little choked up at the close-up of Mrs. Lovell and Mrs. Haise.
Gentlemen I think you're all neglecting one very important scene that changed the history of movies forever...
The ending scene from "Titus" when Tamora realized she just ate her sons, and the chaos that followed.
When you think about the terror the guy must have been going through, the scene in Reservoir Dogs when Michael Madson has the cop tied up, puts on the music and proceeds to dance around him pouring petrol over him!
