So do I. Oh, damn...now I can't get the theme song out of my head. It's almost as catchy as 'Bridge on the River Kwai.'
The end of Best of the Best. Made me cry man tears. Either that or Phoebe Cates coming out of the pool in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
Buncha good ones so far. I can add the Battle of Pelennor Fields in RotK very closely followed by the charge of the Rohirrim at Helms Deep. CAVALRY!!!!
Here's a couple: The opening shot of Star Wars The ending of 'The Yakuza', but only in the context of having seen the whole movie before that. Tom Hank's death scene through the end credits in SPR. F-14's VS Jap Zeroes in The Final Countdown Boss' speech in the dining room in Open Range The group viking prayer before the final battle in The 13th Warrior Just about any scene from "The Right Stuff". Especially Yeager's cameo where he plays the bartender and walks up behind the goob pencilneck, and asks: "You wanna drink of whiskey?" My God, that line alone could and should probably be my epitath. :burb:
How about Conan's prayer to Crom and the final battle with the Polederas music blaring at the end of Conan The Barbarian. Can't believe no one mentioned that one right off the bat.
Patton, standing on a dusty street, firing his sidearm at a strafing German fighter. The St. Crispins Day speech in Brannagh's Henry V. The first fight back montage in Red Dawn, starting with the ambush of the tankers and ending with the ambush of the firing squad. Wolverines! Kurt Russell gearing up to take on the 20-man assault team in Soldier. "What are you going to do?" "I'm going to kill them all." And then he does. The embassy rescue in "The Final Option." Band of Brothers. Lt. Speirs charging across a field after the Battle of the Bulge. Second place - Capt. Winters line before the Bulge -- "You'll be surrounded sir." "We're paratroopers. We're always surrounded." Third place - Lt. Winters takes out the German field artillery with a squad. (Shot exactly as it happened.) Rocky training montage in Rocky II after Adrian wakes from the coma and tells him to win.
'Kay. I'll admit it's a blatant ripoff, but I still the scene from "The Untouchables". http://youtube.com/watch?v=7iRN9Xjl05U
Here are some of the best cinematic moments made even better. Wow. Someone else has seen Best of the Best? We're talking about the same movie, with James Earl Jones as the coach, Eric Roberts pretending he can fight, and the Rhee brothers completely stealing the show with their skills?
Never thought anybody would mention a scene from Best of the Best. Are we talking about the 80's 'martial arts' movie here?
Oooh. Can't believe I forgot it for this long: The scene with the Marines landing in "The Wind and the Lion."
The 'someone should warn him' scene from We're No Angels. The whole restaurant scene at the start of Hold That Ghost. "Miracle Max" in The Princess Bride. (I'd nominate the "iocaine" scene instead, but Vizzini's delivery there always sounds forced to me ) The final "My husband is whacko!" scene in Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Also the "abduction" scene.
"you were only supposed to blow the bladdy doors orf!" raindrops keep falling on my head, and the final scene from butch and sundance the kid laughing about having a bulletproof jacket in battle royale (one axe in the head later...) the foyer battle scene in the matrix any number of scenes from the sellers pink panther movies (shot in the dark was okayish, and we'll not talk about steve martins attempt.)
Nothing in the running for "best", and an extremely dated soundtrack hampers the film, but there are some great lines in "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid": [Butch and Sundance are trapped at the edge of the canyon, over a raging river as the bounty hunters are closing in. Butch [Newman] decides the only way to escape is to jump into the river and Sundance [Redford] refuses. After much badgering and cajoling, the truth comes out:] SUNDANCE: I can't swim. BUTCH: Swim!? Hell, the fall'l probably kill ya. [Or where they are in South America, trying to get work as payroll guards. During the interview, the foreman wants to know if they can shoot. He pulls Sundance's gun, hands it to him, and asks him to shoot a tin can, maybe a dozen feet away. Sundance goes to holster the gun and the foreman stops him. "Just shoot the can," he says. Sundance shoots a couple times and misses. Frustrated, he holsters the gun and starts to walk off. Suddenly he spins around, draws, and blows the Hell out of the can.] SUNDANCE: I'm better when I move. FOREMAN: Yes, you certainly are.
So many great ones already listed! Personal favorites already mentioned - Patton, several moments; his detour to the north african battlefield while he talks about his past lives with echoes of trumpets in the background, 'Rommel, I've read your damn book!', and his recitation of 'through a mirror, darkly'. Butch and Sundance - when they realize that the Pinkerton's have brought all the best lawmen in the country after them. 'Who ARE those guys?' Pulp Fiction, the ending time loop when you finally figure out what the different parts of the movie has to do with each other, and of course Samuel Jackson reciting the bible Aliens - the Marine dropship scene. Superman Returns - the space plane rescue Band of Brothers - too many great ones, but the best is when they are heading to Bastogne while the defeated 1st infantry is retreating, and Winters gives the - We're Paratroopers. We are supposed to be surrounded! Unforgiven - when we finally see what Clint's character is capable of at the end. "I'll see you in hell, Edward Munny." Just a simple, "Yeah", then the raises the Spenser... Fellowship of the Ring - when Frodo offers Aragorn the Ring, which Aragorn refuses and tells Frodo to run. Then he walks around the ruins and you see Uruk-Hai as far as the eye can see.... Ghostbusters - pretty much the whole damn movie, but specifically the 'What have you DONE, Ray' moment. "Yeah, its the stay puft marshmellow man'. Classic! Raiders of the Lost Ark - Indy fighting his way up the Nazi troop caravan to steal back the Ark. The Usual Suspects - As Kaiser Soyze walks away... Oh, and Fantasia - Night on Bald Mountain. That's pretty much my list. Oh, and of course the Wrath of Khan - the Kirk scream. Khan was one of the best bad guys ever.
Even better, when Steve Canally and the Marines join up with Candace Bergen to rescue Sean Connery. "Draw your weapons from the boy!"
