Ive ducked out of this particular game, one or two people with ultimate power and everyone else with no point of attempting to build as it gets instantly destroyed aint my idea of fun. Hopefully it will be reset soon enough
*sigh* OK. Forget about what I said in Post #52. Rereading it, much of it was my opinions and my personal opinions aren't helping the discussion. Lets look at this instead: OK. Fair enough. There was no huge Machiavellian conspiracy. But the fact remains that at least two players had foresight of an upcoming game. Now understand, I'm not saying you meant to use this to give you an unfair advantage. But I'm trying to say that it still gives you an unfair advantage. You know in advance that a new game is coming and--formally or informally--that impacts your plans for the upcoming week: "Hey, how about BNT?" "Yeah. That was fun. We should do it again some time." "Well, how about next Monday?" "Sure. I don't have anything pressing right now. That sounds fine. Make it happen." Maybe the conversation didn't go exactly like that--obviously I wasn't there. But from your explanation, It sounds like it was something like that. Meanwhile, anyone else goes ahead with their life and then, checking in goes "Oh. There's a new post in the BNT forum. Oh. They started a new game." Best case scenario, the game is only a few hours old and you're able to catch up. Worst case scenario, you already made plans for the week that prevent you from spending the needed time on the game--or you find out about it a day or two after things have been going. And anyone who thinks a day or two doesn't make that much difference clearly hasn't played much. In the second(?) game, our group put together a little alliance and, 24 hours into the game, were able to very nearly win it decisively. BUT, 24 hours into the game, Elwood was already so strong that the three of us weren't able to take him out. I'm not saying anyone cheated or anything, I'm just saying that it is crucial to get into the game right when it starts. And it is crucial to know any changes or tweaks that have been intentionally made since the last game. Actually, IIRC, Nick did this for Game 2. He told us about SOFA, the tweaks to the interest rate, and a few other things. And now, after discussing things, we know that the change in realspace rates for this game wasn't made by him. But some feelings could've been avoided if the new game had been launched with more than That's like showing up for a track meet, only to find one of the runners is already down at the blocks, suited up, pulling the trigger on the starting pistol. So forget everything else I said. It was unnecessarily hurtful. But take to heart my suggestion. When the next game starts, start it with more than "Begin!" Give everyone a week's notice so that they know not to make any plans. And mention any significant changes made from the basic rules (or say "No changes. The game is completely stock, with the aliens (whatever they were called) turned of."
I pretty much agree that the out of nowhere "Begin!" was kind of an advantage (even though it probably wasn't intended to be). Liked how, in one of the previous rounds, we had some say in what would be altered, and it was announced to us before it began. We also had some say in the beginning, and a week's notice of when the game would end and when the next game would begin. Also, please don't end this round too abruptly. I'd like to have a chance to get my credits in the bank.
^^If the setup of this game had been discussed for a few days beforehand I would have been in at the start, as it was I was too busy when the game suddenly started to jump in.
Would you like some cheese with that whine? Sorry to burst your conspiracy bubble, but Elwood had maybe 30 minutes of advance warning to start the game, and that's always going to happen, because its his site and I'm always going to ask his permission before I start something. And on another note, you make it sound like the game is impossible to win if you don't get in within the first hour. I'm going to come out and say this much though, if you don't like how its run, don't fucking play. No one likes someone who whines every game. I highly doubt that I'm going to run another game though. There's more pressing issues on this site that need to be dealt with.
James T. Kirk: You shouldn't leave 120 million credits and 8 million colonists on a world without defenses or energy. I may be a First One, but I'm only human.
So. What was that other game PotN was talking about in one of the old threads? While I was looking for something actually work-related, I found this: http://www.astrowars.com/about/
If you're going to put billions of credits on a world, you should probably think about upgrading your shields and phasers to at least level 10 if not 20. Otherwise, you should put it in a bank, where its safe. Level 0 phasers will only kill 100 enemy fighters. Less than 50% of your massive torpedo stockpile will be launched. Phasers are your friend. P.S. Sector defense fighters are just a polite way to ask someone to cloak before entering a system. Mines, or nothing. Personally, I go with mines.
The Kibeth system was pretty much abandoned by now. Feel free to have it. I appreciate the advice on the phasers though.
If you'll check the worlds in that system, I think you'll find a billion credits with your name on it. I'm ancient and mysterious, I'm not a bastard.
Interesting facts about sector 3000: * You can't automate trade routes to or from worlds in there. * Chartered sector rules don't apply. * If you take advantage of the above rule and build a new world in sector 3000, I'll take it from you. Its a real pain in the ass to long-haul colonists and resources in there.
In response in NAHTMM's outrageous placement of a 1000 credit bounty on the Anakin Solo and it's peace loving captain two 2 billion credit bounties have been placed on the members of the Frogs in the Tide. Good hunting everyone.
I think that's a bit overreacting, Darkstryke. Maybe we should find out WHY such a bounty has been levvied in the first place. Also, can I just pay ALL these bounties out of pocket to make them go away?
What is 'Things someone who isn't playing would bitch about'? I don't like bounties, I think they're mean and unfair, and try to keep them out of the game unless someone really deserves it. If you have a problem, take it up with Mister Nunya.
I'm not sure who James T. Kirk is, but I guarantee you, you'll run out of money for mine deflectors and EWD's long before I run out of money for mines and the inclination to shoot tresspassers.
I don't know who this Anakin Solo is, but his brother Jacen is being rather annoying with his obsession with picking the scales off of every butterfly he comes acro . . . Oh, wait. Anakin Solo's the ship. Ooookay, that's just wrong.
