she's not new in prison, she's been incarcerated for ages - just new to this facility. Also, they are dragging it out much longer than they take on average. It's reasonable to suspect they are fucking with her, that happens much more than people who never encounter it might suspect.

Wait until she gets a razor. It will be hard to tell if she is suicidal or just cut herself shaving with the single dull blade crap razors they give out. It would be more humane to give her an epilady.

I like single blade razors. Double or triple clog up between the blades all the time. Granted I'm not going to prison just to get single blade razors though. But they can be hard to find at the average grocery store.

Don't be an idiot. She's in a new gendered prison. It's never happened before. Reception processing in California takes months. Being in prison for a long time in irrelevant. Returning inmates get the same treatment. It's not up to the system to figure out what to do with her now. It's up to the warden to figure out what to do with her and I bet he's got a hard job. Where in big faciluty can he safely house her? What jobs or treatment should she go to where her safety can be assured? At the end of the day they're not dealing with just another female criminal. She's inmate famous. The entire inmate population is waiting for her.

The state is in new territory here so someone up top probably said to be extra careful and make sure everyone dots every fucking i and crosses every damn t to make sure this inmate can't come back and try to sue over something.

And this inmate is now famous because of the sex change and in prison being "famous" makes you a huge target.

Inmates are always on the lookout for a lawsuit. It's a good way to make money off the system or to use to get things you want.

I wouldn't be surprised if she ended up in some sort of protection unit for famous criminals. Not sure there are enough females to make one but you've got to start somewhere.

I'm sure they have a SMU (special management unit) for females. A SMU holds troublemakers and other special cases.

Than again they may just pop her in general population and see what happens.

They can't keep her segregated in California without discipline issues. For men they have a famous criminal unit where Manson is held. But it's very gP. Just small pop.

if you have to "figure out new things" regarding this person then by definition, you can figure out the beard situation. If you "must treat her like everyone else" that's not the same as "figuring out this new thing"

Here's an idea. Give her five or ten minutes once a day with a razor under guard supervision and then retrieve the razor. Problem solved until the intake period is over.

Assuming of course they WANT to solve the problem rather than fuck with her because they disapprove of her presence.

I think Nova's point is that when you're part of a marginalized group that you become rather sensitive to any treatment out of the ordinary.

There's no "special privilege" involved in this - as in the post I replied to, it's the system working out "how we do this new thing"

To you, and Diner and Face and whoever, a beard or not a beard is a style choice - to me, for example, as a free person - if there is a tornado bearing down on my house and I have visible facial hair I will at least give serious thought to whether or not I have time to shave before I go seek a shelter. Bull shit, it is additional time and attention taking away from official resources because you want special treatment. They should get exactly the same as everyone else no more and no less. I'm not trying to rag on you because I was kinda the same way on the fanfiction boards I used to post on. I've always been supportive of gay rights and never thought trans people should be harmed but I didn't get why people in those communities, many of who fell in the LGBTQ spectrum, were offended about putting warnings for slash pairings. For me, I thought it was a courtesy so that if know I'm not wasting my time if I didn't want to read about Kirk and Spock banging in the turbolift; for them "warning" implies that it's something that's inherently wrong with who they are or that it's in the same category of something like incest or non-con. Even as part of a minority group myself, I missed their points for years and did what people do to Nova here to tell her that her feelings don't matter and that she's overreacting instead of listening and learning *why* she's passionate.
