Can someone please tell me a real problem with the Iran nuke deal.

I don't think Putin is crazy enough to want to lose a client state just so he can get a temperary boost to oil prices. He is a rational actor just an aggressive one who wants to protect the Russian sphere and look strong to domestic audiences. He doesn't want the nuclear club to grow because that would deminish Russia's relative power, that is why he signed on to sanctions against Iran, but now that Iran is negotiating away it's weapons program he is eager to resume the client relationship with Iran.

It doesn't hurt that Russia's economy needs a boost and other than raw materials arms are their main export. The US and EU have most of the big arms buyers wrapped up so countries like Syria and Iran are very import to the Russian arms industry especially since India has been flirting with western arms dealers while China has been pushing their own designs So those two markets are drYing up for Russian arms makers.

Iran is hardly a Russian client state.

It is when it comes to arms purchases. They get most of their weapons, especially the advanced stuff, from the Russians.

Exactly. Iran got the best possible deal, one where they give up nothing in return for international permission to build a nuclear arsenal while continuing their terrorism and long range missile programs.

They've always been saying they don't want nuclear weapons - as they stubbornly built everything they need to develop nuclear tipped ballistic missiles despite the harsh sanctions imposed by the UN to stop them from developing nuclear weapons. Meanwhile one of Hillary's largest donors was violating those sanctions and making a fortune doing it.

Just like they've been saying Obama bent over for them and gave them everything they wanted.

And they got everything they wanted. If you look at the two sides positions at the start of negotiations, the Iranian side hasn't budged. Just a day or two ago Obama even agreed to the Iranian demand that all the sanctions be dropped immediately instead of in stages.

Now Iran is saying inspectors aren't allowed to see any military sites, but energy producing sites are allowed.
Congress will pull the plug on the whole she-bang and tell Iran to pound sand before they go balls-deep in our keister.

So, bottom line, the main problem with the Iran deal is twofold: (A) certain Americans are so insecure that they need an enemy to push against in order to justify huge Pentagon expenditures and their own existence (a.k.a. "We have always been at war with Eastasia" and "I'm sorry your mom gave you a girl's name, Senator Graham"), and (B) Because Obama.

Thanks for that keen, insightful, unbiased and (more importantly) fact filled analysis, Garamet.
It must have taken at least a few second's worth of your time researching the topic. But you do present a valid, if overly complex argument.

BTW I don't care who the current president is - this deal would suck for the US no matter who is in charge. Not being able to look at everything nuclear should be a deal-breaker, or what's the point of inspecting at all? When the judge grants a search warrant for my house it doesn't say "cannot look in his kitchen."

It's more like "Cannot look in his gun safe or in his garage or basement where he makes explosives and chemical weapons."

Iran has just sent warships off the coast of Yemen while their leaders taunt Saudi Arabia, saying they have a puny army. Countries used to be very reluctant to fuck with US allies, but under Obama they're laughing it up because they know he's impotent.

But if the inspectors do get to look in the garage but not the gun safe, the US will consider that shrewd negotiating.

Isn't it going to be kind of awkward negotiating with the Iranians if we have to sink an Iranian ship here shortly?

    AP News

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — With some lawmakers chanting "Death to the America," Iran's parliament voted to ban access to military sites, documents and scientists as part of a future deal with world powers over its contested nuclear program.

Well, I'm sure Obama and Kerry will concede on that.

Kudos to Britain, France, Germany, Russia, China, and the US for engaging Iran. Also kudos to the Obama administration for ignoring every single Republican who has opposes engaging Iran. Any measure that neuters Republican foreign policy bravado is a long term winner for US national security.

The entire Middle East is in flames and Saudi Arabia says their going to get their own nuclear weapons just to keep Iran in check. Once the Middle East goes nuclear, the countdown clock starts ticking down to mushroom clouds over European cities.
