^This. Wile E. Cyote is my favorite. I'd even take Bugs vs. Tasmanian Devil over Pepe. Speedy and Slow Poke were cool though.
I think it is the fact that all the other characters know what he does and do nothing about it that is another problem.
Look, Quentin Tarantino really wanted to say something, but without Pepe's money, he couldn't make "Kill Bill" and that would have made him sad.
Maybe. What's the actual joke in those cartoons though? Which character are we laughing at and why? It's been a while, but my understanding is that we're meant to laugh at the suffering of the cat, albeit sympathetically. Sort of like how The Office often made Pams endless humiliation and degradation the punchline, even though we're supposed to be rooting for her.
I managed to miss the actual Pepe Le Pew story, so I finally went and looked it up. Jesus Christ. This is what conservatives are whining about now? Is Warner Bros. digitally erasing him from old Looney Tunes sketches like Josef Stalin airbrushing his enemies out of photos? Are Pepe Le Pew toys being pulled from shelves and burned like Dixie Chicks CDs? No, a scene got cut from a sequel movie, several months before a New York Times columnist earned the culture warriors' ire by talking about the character in the context of rape culture. Have right-wingers always been such babies?
if a trans versus natural does catch on, it will probably be at the regional level. It could be happening already somewhere. As for fighters agreeing ahead of time to fight despite an advantage, that already exists in the form of a "catch weight" fight. A catch weight fight means one fighter can't make weight - they are over the limit for the weight class. But if the smaller fighter (within the weight class limit) agrees to fight at a disadvantage, the fighter who didn't make weight forfeits 30 percent of their "show money" -which is money just for showing up and fighting - to the smaller fighter. My point being if a natural female agrees to fight a trans fighter (no surprises) and any and all legal liabilities are kosher, then the fight will indeed take place.
Yes they have many weight classes, just not as many as boxing. They try to have fighters as closely matched as possible.
None of the people who fought Fox were unaware of her status, yet the right STILL whines incessantly (and lies regularly) about her nondescript career.
That might be an area where joe actually lied and misrepresented things. From what I heard from him, because I do not listen to any other sources, this fox person did not say they were trans. That would be knowingly adding misinformation to make the person sound worse than they are if it is true. I personally do not care enough to verify, but maybe someone else could verify that these women were aware they were fighting a trans woman.
I mentioned that we have TV and movie ratings systems in response to his whining about Disney putting a note on the Muppet Show, and because the MPAA system has flaws, he thinks he's scored some kind of point.
Chris Hayes had John McWhorter on the latest episode of Why Is This Happening, and it's a nuanced, if spicy, take on this topic. I'm about 80-20, maybe 72-25 McWhorter-Hayes in perspective here, though I'm still 20 minutes from the end. Apologies, there are no transcripts and I'm not finding a video.
I listened to about half of it before I had to do something else. I liked that Hayes was giving him space without necessarily indulging some of the premises, as i understand it McWhorter's case was more fragile than he would have liked me to think it is.
Relatedly, there's a fuckload of Republicans bills in one stage or another seeking to legally restrict the classroom speech of teachers and professors to transparently restrict criticism of their political worldview - everything from sex/gender issues to climate - and i dare anyone to find me a reliable right wing voice who's called this trend out as a form of cancel culture and more importantly, fascist bullshit.
You say this, but the fact you don't personally know any means shit all. There are folk who agree with Jessup in A Few Good Men. There were people in the UK who thought Alf Garnett (the basis of Archie Bunker when the US nicked the series because you guys suck donkey cocks) was right in his bigoted statements, when the character was played by a left-leaning Jewish actor. For every cunt in a movie, there's someone out there who identifies with them. In your case, Jar-Jar.
And, as a woman who was once young and pretty and thin and still in my 20s, I can tell you, there are A LOT of Pepe LaPews out there. and they all thought it was their right to ogle, touch, or otherwise use my body for their pleasure. Like the cat, though, women have learned to adjust over the years. But, it shouldn't be on women to teach men how to behave. If it were up to me, I'd just a soon shoot ever last one of them.
Oh jesus fucking christ. Do not pull that "I make the worst possible interpretation of your statement, behave like it was the only one and declare you permanently guilty of it with me" schtick with me. That shit was tired by 2005, Mister Fucking Originality. Jenny said "ogle, touch, or otherwise use my body for their pleasure." She did not say rape. If I'm defending rape, I will say "I hereby defend rape." You won't have to resort to weaselly chickenshit word-parsing to achieve your petty goddamn "gotcha," fucknuts.
