Several of you have been asking about making a donation somewhere. I know he admired the work being done by one of the groups I'm involved with (please don't let this get out, I dont want to spoil my evil rep)

    http://soldiersangels.org/index.php?page=donate

We mostly send letters and care packages to those serving in the Middle East, provide assistance for families of fallen and wounded heros, donate goodies to Vets Homes and Hospitals.

If you do want to give something, just put "In Memory of Tom" in the comments space.

The most important thing you could do in his memory is to thank a Hero for his/her service.

And for you lefty anti-military types, donating something to your local humane society is ok too.

Techie was an online friend. I used to chat with him. He shared photos of his vacations and home projects and we just had good times yapping. He was more than just a screenname on a BBS.

It's hard to believe he's gone. I'll miss him.

Goodbye Tom. You'll be missed. I'll never hear certain places again without thinking of you.

There is something very surreal about seeing his posts with his "Smilin' Bob" avatar and his custom title "Still smilin'".

I can't believe Techman is gone! He was one of the more recognizable posters at TrekBBS and then here when we all moved. Always online, and you always knew he wouldn't be gone too long.

    I will miss him, a lot. :(

    Oh my god.
Since TBBS days I've known Techie, and even though I never met him in person, I feel the loss of a friend.
    I'll miss him.

No man is an Island, entire of itself,
Every man is a piece of the Continent, a part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less,
As well as if a promontory were,
As well as if a manor of thy friends or of thine own were.
Any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankind,
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls:
    It tolls for thee.

Diacanu agrees: Got some points back. Sorry, just kicking a tree that he's gone, y'know?

I know exactly what you mean. And the nurse in me is really kicking trees and walls and god knows what else because .... because as a nurse I would have wanted to do everything I knew to save him and have him back here to debate with us. DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN

I just found out about this a little while ago. Techman and I didn't always get along or agree, but he was a good man, true to his beliefs and full of integrity. He always had my respect and he always will. I don't know whether he ever knew it, but he touched a lot lives and his loss will be felt by all of them. Myself included.

Huh. Here I am only fifty miles or so away from the guy, and we never met. I always meant to try and meet up sometime when I was in Indy for a doctor's appointment, just never got around to it. This sucks, I still remember him as Techman 47 from the old days over at blue.

Just a few weeks ago I posted in some "What WFer would you like to meet" thread that I thought it would be fun to meet Techman and get in a good old-fashioned barroom brawl with him.

And I said it knowing the old coot could probably take me in under a minute. :techman:

Techman was a wonderful person who made me smile, sometimes on days I didn't think anything could.

He always had a joke, a kind word, a saucy flirt or just some good advice...I will miss seeing him on the board and in chat, and regret I will never get that big hug he assured me was the best. :)

I also want to express my gratitude as a citizen of the United States for Tom's honored service to our country and all the sacrifices, difficulties and discomforts that entailed. Thank you, Techman.

And much like the echoes of TAPS tend to linger in the air and hearts of the attendees of a military funeral, Techman's presence will continue to be felt, in one way or another, on this board, as long as Wordforge exsists. :salute:

Sometimes I wish the internet persona thing was really true.

That would mean a good man didn't just die.

He was a pain in the ass and opinionated as hell, but that's why he was a Forger.

Go with god, Techman. I know you didn't believe in him, and I'm not sure I do, but it sure as hell can't hurt.
