Shots Fired At The Capital Woman Rams Barricade At White House Sounds like the Revolution is about to begin!
Same event. A car hit a barricade at the White House. When law enforcement moved in, the chase was on. Shots were fired after the chase led to the Capitol. Sounds like a lone nut. Let me know when this happens 100 more times in the next few days and then we'll talk. In the mean time, you may want to adjust the frequency your tinfoil hats are receiving.
No matter what the motivation, that car was really moving considering the restricted nature of the streets in the area. I hate it when people start saying "why didn't they shoot out the tires"? That is about as easy on a moving vehicle as shooting a gun out of someone's hand.
Those gunshots started as soon as she ran. If they can't prove she was a major danger...all those gunshots with all the people around the capital and white house sounds like a bad idea. Then they got the kid out of the car BEFORE killing the woman (mother?) I'll wait for more info...but it sounds...strange.
I haven't heard or read anything beyond the first stories that came out about this incident, but I wouldn't be surprised if they justify the shooting by saying that she was using the car as a weapon.
Ten years ago I shot video of police capping a guy who had returned to a murder scene (he'd killed his wife in their bedroom earlier in the day) and ran over a cop with his SUV. Got two Emmys for that.
She apparently sent a Secret Service agent over the hood of her car and struck several vehicles on her way from the White House to the Capitol: http://www.newser.com/story/175319/female-driver-in-capitol-car-chase-is-dead.html Saw a video somewhere, too. Lot of traffic, lot of people on foot along her path - middle of the day in D.C. - fortunate there were only a couple of minor injuries. She's since been identified, and family indicates she had a history of mental problems. So, um, you let her drive from Connecticut to D.C. with her 18-month-old daughter in the car unsupervised?
In 1985 in the case "Tennessee vs. Garner", the Supreme Court determined that the Police, and everyone else, can use lethal force if they believe that the unlawful use of force is imminent including using an automobile. The reaffirmed that an automobile can be considered as a lethal instrument for the purposes of justifying use of lethal force in the 2007 case "Scott vs. Harris."
Unfortunately, I happen to know an officer that is probably going to go through a precedent setting case regarding the use of automobiles as lethal weapons. The suspect appeared to be surrendering after a high speed chase. When the first officer got out of the car, the suspect floored the accelerator and spun the car around (he was on grass). He attempted to run over the officer but the officer managed to jump out of the way. Upon getting up, the Officer opened fire and struck the man in the head as he attempted to turn around to make another pass. The Officer's justification for firing was that there were other Officers and Civilians in the area that were in imminent danger. The suspect had already demonstrated that he was using the automobile as a weapon. He also, reasonably believed, that the suspect was turning to come back. Other officers, in front of the car fired, but didn't strike the driver. But, in this case, striking the guy in the back of the head is bad mojo. Under current law, the thought is if the suspect has his back to you, thus is heading away from you, they're not a threat. But, at the same time, anyone may use lethal force to protect themselves and others from what they reasonably believe is the imminent use of lethal force. I think the ABI and Attorney General are going to use him to hash the matter out once and for all.
The area outside the White House is almost entirely pedestrianised. She must've been going at a fair speed to get as far as she did. Amazing that no pedestrians were run down.
The perp: I imagine the left is all pissed off that she's black. Now they can't claim it was racist Tea Partyists.
So? It's the standard change up. Now that she's black no doubt the spurious claims will start linking it to her ethnicity.
Seriously, the board's self acknowledged homophobe is trying to make a tenuous claim that I am a bigot?
I'm surprised Jesse and AL aren't already in Washington blasting the racist D.C. Police / Secret Service / Capital Police. On an unrelated note, I like Cathy Lanier, the Chief of the Metro D.C. Police. During the first press conference the Secret Service guy and the other guy stammered and stuttered and were hounded by reporters. When it was Cathy's turn she laid down the rules on the reporters with a lot of authority in a "don't fuck with me" tone on voice. She's not a lot to look at, but sounds like she knows what she's doing.
Let's hear it Mewa...gonna say those two don't stick their noses where they don't belong and cause more problems than they solve? Or do you dislike Cathy?
