I really hope DC doesn’t build the future around The Rock as the main lead. Please.

James Gunn confirms Superman is being rebooted, and he'll write the new Superman.
Cavill is out as Superman, but he'll be coming back as someone else.

No word on Superman casting, the director for this movie, whether it's the vanguard of the new DCU the way "Man Of Steel" was, or if it'll be a pocket universe like "Joker" and "The Batman" .

Gunn says he'll lay out his full master plan after New Years.

Marvel should immediately cast Cavill as literally anyone he wants, so they can release the film the same weekend as the young Superman movie and absolutely obliterate it. Reed Richards or Doctor Doom would be fine, but it'd be funnier if it was someone really obscure. Fuck, let him be Squirrel Girl just to stick it to Gunn.

They had a European branch of X-Men called Xcalibur, and Captain Britain was their leader.
Nightcrawler was in it cuz he's French.

I think we'd wanna start looking younger because Xcalibur before 2030 seems unlikely without getting a recognizable new Xmen series established first.

Maybe pass the torch using X-tinction agenda plot as an excuse to connect them?

I remain skeptical that James Gunn is up to the task of saving the DC Cinematic Universe.

    (But I hope I'm wrong.)

Cavill was told he would be getting the part and to be available had to resign from the Witcher season 3. They then told him he would not be returning.

So fuck James Gunn. That's a shit move. Hell, he even got into a spat with some guy on the internet who said that Gunn had it out for Cavill, so it was all lies, and then pulls this shit.

They offered it to Kevin Smith once, but like Riker, he ran away from the big chair.
At least Gunn wants the job.

Kevin Smith would have been a horrible choice.

I like his films and he's a total comics fanboy, but he would have been a disaster at the helm of DC.

Again , it hinged on stupid Black Adam.
I really think they thought it was gonna make a billion.
They weren't stupid to think that, Aquaman was goofy, and it made a billion.

They put that in "Superman: Doomsday" with animated Kevin Smith in the crowd going "a robot spider? That's stupid".

I don’t see any other way really. They want a ten year plan and that means a younger holy trinity. They’re going to have to recast every one.

Trying to think of anything memorable and good about Man of Steel that didn't have Cavill onscreen to bestow his talents on it. (Disclaimer: only watched it once, when it came out.)

Uh, the underwater Krypton DNAbase was kinda cool?

Seems really unfortunate that they're leaving him behind moving forward, and that they aren't ditching the live-action stuff to focus on the LEGO corner of the DCU.

Mileage will vary, but I think that despite Cavill doing a great job with the role that he was given, Man of Steel fundamentally doesn't understand who/what Superman is supposed to be, and so was generally an irredeemable mess.

Of course, some of it is just a function of how the concept of Superman/Krypton has changed since the time of the Chris Reeve movie. Back then, Jor-El created a prototype rocket and so it made sense that there was basically only one or two Kryptonians who survived Krypton's destruction. With the more modern situation as on display in Man of Steel and elsewhere, where Krypton is basically has had tons of spaceships and contact with other worlds, it makes no sense for Clark/Kal to be one of the only ones of his kind, period. Heck, it doesn't even make sense for him to be one of the only ones of of his kind to make it to Earth, if it is well known that going to a place like it will make you essentially a god.

    Thus endeth the fanboy rant.
