Spring is here. Time to roll those war machines out of the barn. Spring 2002 moves are due today. 10:00 AM Pacific Daylight Time, 1:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time and 7:00 PM Central European Summer Time. I don't see any reason for a delay at this point.
Sorry all, Italy was tied up with all sorts of domestic issues this weekend and its diplomats were seen in Washington, DC doing God knows what (and he really doesn't want to give anyone sinful ideas anyway...) Needless to say, I played it rather safe/aggressive considering the messages waiting for me when I got back.

According to the information that I have, Sweden is currently on Central European Summer Time, which is one hour ahead of British Summer Time. So Sweden is actually two hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time, which does not adjust for the summer. For this game, the standard deadline in Sweden would be 7:00 PM.

I have received this communication from the Italian Ministry of Information. ***********PRESS RELEASE********** Italian Red Cross and Humanitarian forces in North Africa have the following information about the Spanish occupation of Morocco: Quote: October 30, 2001 Hamdi Lembarki died in Laayoune, Western Sahara, during a demonstration in support of Western Sahara independence. Accounts differ concerning Lembarki’s death. According to media reports, eyewitnesses claimed that Spanish police beat Lembarki to death. The government initially claimed Lembarki died from injuries sustained when he was hit by a stone thrown by another demonstrator. The government investigated Lembarki’s death and arrested two police who were awaiting trial at year’s end. On October 6, border guards shot and killed four African migrants trying to enter illegally the Spanish enclave of Melilla. According to a government report, two other migrants later died from multiple wounds. Quote: In June 2002 AI published a report that accused security authorities of systematic torture and ill treatment of suspects held at the Temara detention center. AI noted a sharp rise over the past two years in such cases in the context of "counter terrorism" measures as well as the failure of government authorities to investigate these reports. The government pledged to investigate each of the alleged cases in the AI report. The government did not provide an update on these cases. Quote: Lack of free speech and media in the Western Sahara complicated attempts to confirm whether Sahrawis were imprisoned solely for their political affiliation, for open advocacy of independence, or for other violations of the law. In 2002 various international human rights groups estimated that 700 persons were imprisoned for advocating Western Saharan independence. Spanish forces in Morocco: Because of Italy's close ties and international acclaim for supporting Islam and other religions, and because of our other efforts in Northern Africa to keep those nations free of outside interference, Italy has no choice but to prevent further aggression in Africa by Spanish forces. Italy recommends an economic embargo by all other member states of the European Union; UN sanctions; and an Oil Embargo by OPEC nations. The latter has already been put into place by OPEC nations in the Middle East due to the atrocities committed by Spain in Northern Africa. We hope that Spain understands where it stands in world affairs; that it ceed all claims in Algiers and makes a devoted effort to allow free elections in Morocco; and ensure that humanitarian efforts by multinational forces reach the beleaguered citizens of Western Africa instead of going to Spain's own coffers.
It is truly shocking what the Spaniards are up to in North-West Africa and I am surprised that the rest of the world hasn't acted after the release of these pictures of what Spanish forces are doing in Morocco: And these are just the ones we think are viewable by those with weak constitutions...beware following any links!
Italy's people are healthy and fit, even our protectorates in Northern Africa. I wish I could say the same about the poor souls in Morocco. (Afterall, this stuff makes the game that much more fun!)

I am sorry everybody. I got stranded without internet access in a cabin without internet access with my family. I didn't expect that I wouldn't be able to post orders. Sorry again. a.
Fall 2003 Orders are due Wednesday, September 3. We're getting some movement in the game, this will be a crucial set of orders. Sixteen hours after the deadline, I am leaving for California. I would like to complete the Fall retreats and adjustments before I go. If our players will keep an eye on the board, I think we can get this done.

Next move: Spring 2004 Orders Will be due Wednesday, September 12. 10:00 AM Pacific Daylight Time - 1:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time - 7:00 PM Central European Summer Time
Hello people. I'm back. I am sorry for the delay. Orders for Spring 2004 are due on Wednesday, Sept. 12. Same time as before. 10:00 AM Pacific Time, 1:00 PM, Eastern Time, and 7:00 PM in Sweden. I have not commented on the play of the game so far, as I didn't want to influence the course of events. But, let's take a look at where we stand. A couple of players have submitted orders for the next turn, but I haven't looked at them yet. Spain needs a second fleet, and it looks to me like he'll get it. France has done a very good job in a difficult position. He is good posiition to hold off an attack from Germany, if it's just Germany. Germany has moved aggressively against France, and left himself open to an attack from Austria. Austria has spurned the opportunity to attack Germany, and moved to fill the neutral spaces in the center of the board. Italy is played by faisent, our two-time champion. I really can't figure out what he's doing. Anyway that's how I see it. The situation could change drastically after the next move. Thanks for waiting gentlemen, I am looking forward to receiving your orders.

The members list shows that faisent hasn't visited the site for a couple of days. The French and German Armies had a stand-off in Belgium. Each side had the support of an additional Army. Austria sent a Fleet and an Army into Albania. This tactic eliminated the possiblilty that the Italian Fleet could enter Albania, while keeping the Austrian units in place. The Spanish Fleet sailed into Algeria. There are no retreats. Here is the current map: Next Move: Fall 2004 Orders are due Monday, Sept. 17, 10:00 Pacific Daylight Time, 1:00 Eastern Daylight Time, 7:00 Central European Summer Time
I suddenly realize that I have titled every order set I've sent to Cobalt with "orders from Italy". I must have been psychic. a.

The deadline for a retreat order from Italy is Tuesday, September 18, 1:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time.
Edit, sorry, I didn't see the possible retreat. The NMR's are worrying, though. Faisent has neglected two moves. That's no good. Is he active on the site? How about Demi? If Faisent isn't active we might need a replacement. a.
Italy did not order a retreat. The Italian Army in Venice is disbanded. Here's the current map: Fall 2004 adjustments are as follows: Austria - One Build Spain - One Build The deadline is Wednesday, Sept. 19, 1:00 PM Eastern Time. I already have a build order from Austria. I will try to reach faisent to find out what's going on there.
