For those of us interested in these types of games should really give this one a look. It's a ton of fun. It's called Here I Stand. It's set in the Protestant Reformation and has a lot of the elements of Diplomacy. It's a six player game so there's room for a lot of people to play. There's also a online gamebox that handles everything. I've been playing it on another message board and it's been a blast. Here's a link to the homepage for the game: http://www.gmtgames.com/nnhis/main.html
Gentlemen Start your Diplomacy. Here are your countries: Armalyte - Austria Demiurge - France Chris - Germany Faisent - Italy Spider - Spain And your Diplomacy Map Please PM to me, your Spring 2001 Orders, by Monday, August 20 at: 10:00 AM - Pacific Daylight Time 12:00 Noon - Central Daylight Time 1:00 PM - Eastern Daylight Time 6:00 PM - British Summer Time 7:00 PM - Central European Summer Time Beyond that, the schedule is open for discussion.
****Press Release**** As tensions rise in Europe, Italy has sent diplomats to ever major power suggesting that lines of communication and a willingness to cooperate is much more important than troop build ups and refitting older warships. "Communication is key to understanding" Dictator-for-life Faisentolini was heard to say while taking mass with the Pope. Afterall, the name of the game is Diplomacy - make sure you talk people! You never know when the right (or even more importantly - wrong) word can change the entire flow of the game. And man, as Italy I'm going to be talking to all of you constantly, its not like I'm playing some easy nation like ummmm, everyone else. Austria, you lucky, lucky dog you. Edit > Also I always try to submit something early, just so I don't end up with any sort of NO ORDER turn (unless I want to end up with a NO ORDER turn, but always better to typo something like that) The way I've done it in the past is to submit an order PM with a version # attached to the subject line, that way if I revise them its easy for the person running the game to know what I really want to do without too much confusion; you never know when some last minute bargaining might change what you want to do, but you don't want to wait to submit just in case something comes up and you can't submit for some reason...I almost always turn in orders as soon as possible and then try to revise them via diplomacy for a better result than going things alone.
Let the games begin, then... Do we have a .dip or .dpy file for this map? It would facilitate matters greatly. I will get to my correspondence as soon as I have meditated upon this position. a.
Sorry, Armalyte. I don't have the software to convert the map to either of those file types. The map is a .gif file, I can convert it to .bmp or .jpg. --- I went back and looked at the thread for the previous Diplomacy game. We tried to set a schedule for one year of Diplomacy a week, but people just couldn't keep up. I think that one season of Diplomacy a week is too slow. I would like to schedule retreats, if any, for the next weekday after moves; and builds, if any, one weekday after that. The initial moves for a new season would be due two weekdays after the conclusion of the previous season. All deadlines would fall during the work week (monday-friday). All deadlines would be at the same time of day.
One year a week should be fine; we're all veterans. Also, what "time period" is this? I need to know if I'm sending Panzers or Landsknecht off to conquer.
I see that my web-site is down this morning. So here's the Diplomacy map. As it is not possible for there to be any retreats after the first move, I would like to make the Fall 2001 orders due Tuesday, 24 hours after the Spring orders. If we decide to play one year of Diplomacy each week, I would like to get on this schedule: Thursday - Spring Orders Friday - Spring Retreats Monday - Fall Orders Tuesday - Fall Retreats Wednesday - Fall Builds and Disbands
I'll log into Y!Chat for diplomacy - my screenname is the same as my name here...will be on during EST working hours usually. I'm in class the next few days, but should be able to talk a bit.

Diplomacy - The Current Map Good Job, everyone.
Already Austria starts with the incursion attempts, obviously not content with making a play for all the lesser nations in the Balkans. Is it up to Italy to protect the valiant Greek peoples from invasion?
Fascinating. Spain shows its word to be worth less than nothing at the very first opportunity of the new administration. Despite having an agreement that CAS on the Spanish border and GAS on the French would remain demilitarized, Spain goes back on its word and breaks this basic security agreement at it's very first opportunity. I'd like to attribute this to a simple nervous temperment, though I must say paranoia is not a particularly fine attribute to have a fellow sovereign demonstrate, let alone one on your borders. But it's a better interpretation than outright aggression, yes? Regardless, it's a provocation after the word of honor of a gentleman was given on this topic. I hope this isn't the first steps toward a senseless war, one likely neither side will profit from. But as Spain's word can't be trusted in the councils of ministers and diplomats, perhaps a more open discussion of the event can shame them into acting as a respectable neighbor.
How sad it is to see such an embarrassing example of French naiveté. Truly, it pains the people of Spain to see such an exhibition of simplicity on the part of the French leadership. Nevertheless, the Spanish people will be happy to assist their neighbours in learning the finer points of such diplomatic intrigues. We hope that France will remain in a position to learn from us for many years to come.
Oh, so you admit you broke your word. Excellent PR move there, Spain! I guess it's better to be thought of as manipulative and treacherous than incompetent, but might I humbly suggest it's better not to have a reputation for either? Oh, just for the record, I'm not getting up on my day off to put in Diplomacy orders, so anyone that wants to speak to me probably should do so by tonight, as I'll be putting my orders in then.
I admit nothing! Nothing! Anyway, you're the one who basically abandoned all his borders! As for PMs--with the exception of next week--I'm probably going to have to submit orders the night before. I can't access wordforge at work, and I have too much to do first thing in the morning!
I'm very curious as to what this next year will bring...we've all (mostly) played nice, but I'm wondering if things will stay that way - will current agreements fall by the wayside in interests of positioning, will the more aggressive nations continue their ways, will benign nations become threatening powers? Ah, this is such a fun game!

Please note that I will be on vacation, and not available for Diplomacy from Thursday Sept. 6 thru Tuesday Sept. 11. All orders were recieved on time. Good job, people. Suggestion; spell out your orders or submit via PM. Diplomacy is a pretty well defined game and I don't know how much of a stickler Cobalt might be (I know I put the wrong year on my orders, so I made damn sure to resubmit them) - just saying that the order "I will build what is possible for me to build" is the same thing as a NMR by the game format and while I'd relish the idea of you having two less armies to threaten me with, I'd rather you played it safe and actually submitted it.
I submitted my build orders through PM. However, since I submitted them all on the same line, I'm going to submit them again in this thread Build A Bud Build A Vie Cheers! a.
