I've played for about three hours, got banished from the mage's circle for helping a blood mage escape and joined the Grey Wardens. The game seems pretty good so far.
I've been pondering buying this. My question: Can you select the language they speak and turn subtitles on? I saw this YouTube video where they guy played the German version, and it sounds more badass than hearing them in English.
Well, this will break me out of lurker mode and be my first post. Hi gang! This game ROCKS! Bioware is the shiz. My first character was a human fighter, but I abandoned that one pretty quick and restarted with a City-Elf Rogue who I'm turning into a Bard-Duelist. I'm probably about 3/4 of the way through the main storyline and I'm already looking forward to playing through again as a mage. Can't say enough about this game- I've got the PC version. Best RPG since KOTOR, although I haven't played Mass Effect or Fallout 3 yet. Only so many hours in the day, y'know?
I finally got the game. Pretty decent so far, and it runs well enough on my system, which is a relief. I've only been playing it for a few hours but already it feels more difficult than the likes of KOTOR and Mass Effect. My warrior class character hardly does any damage, think it's going to take quite a few level-ups before I can start laying waste to enemy hordes. On the plus side, my character is quite the player. Had only been playing for an hour or so before my human noble managed to bag his first lady- boned an elf no less!
Finished my first play through and slew the archdemon. Playing through again as a noble this time. I also redeemed the codes for the blood dragon armor and Shale the Golem and now have him as a potential party member, although I haven't put him to any use yet. I also shelled out for the Warden's Keep DLC, which for $7 gives a cool quest, the Grey Warden's commander armor, and a 'party chest' you can use to store inventory. The real time combat system in this game is the best I've seen in any RPG, although I must caveat that again by saying I haven't played either Fallout 3 or Mass Effect yet. It does take time for a warrior to get badass, but the sad truth is that the mages rule in this game. At higher levels, Morrigan/Wynne/PC get so powerful that they can damn near take out entire hordes on their own. In my second playthrough when I took down the big Dragon in the Frostbacks my entire party except for Morrigan got laid waste early on, yet she carried the day and toasted that critter all by her lonesome. I will also say the game gets a lot easier when you get used to the combat interface, some impressive spell combinations, and efficient ways to organize your quickbar. I totally love this game and am totally immersed right now. I'm spending obscene amounts of time playing it.
I dont have it yet, but I might buy it soon. Here is a demo from youtube thats pretty cool! [yt=Demo]Lub5e_9NDW8[/yt]
It's a good game, but I regret selecting a human warrior as my character now. My character is now around level 10 but he still can't fight for shit! He's got the best weapons and some badass abilities but he can barely make a dent when attacking the bad guys. I'm reliant on the NPC's to save me as my guy is bloody useless in a fight. Some warrior!
Here is a screenshot I took yesterday: http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/1452/dragonagescreen01.jpg The big guy is wearing the special quest armor.
Just started playing this yesterday, despite it being on my system for months. Its pretty good, Ive just got to the point where I can go anywhere on the world map and am at a bit of a loss as to what to do and where to go. Oh and the sheer amount of cutscenes is a bit annoying. You walk 3 feet and get a long cutscene, another 3 feet and another long cutscene... Anyone have any tips?
The game isn't nearly as long as it seems to you right now. Once you get to the world map, you have about five places you can go, and each one has a compartmentalised mini-storyline, and after finishing them you're done with the game. Go wherever you want, the end result is always the same. It's an easy, short game.
Has anyone noticed how this game tends to max out your CPU? On my dual core PC it has 100% CPU usage when this game is running! Not that it affects the game play or performance, it's just unusual for me to run a single application that takes up all available processing power. I thought it was a memory leak but from looking around the BioWare boards, this may have been intentional. Keep an eye on CPU temperature while running this game!
Tried my hand at this after going through Mass Effect 2 (great game, too short, and now I've got to wait a year or two to finish the story! Arrrgh!) Maybe it's playing it after ME2, but it's only Meh for me. Perhaps its the tone, I don't mind the desperate fight against evil, but the whole really annoys me. I like the engine, and the multiple back stories are good, though perhaps not as well realized as I'd like - I'd rather have less options and have it more concentrated in the story. Also, it's completely linear - you can choose were you go, but once you are there, you are stuck in the script. Pretty much the standard RPG. Fallout is the only game that ever truly broke free of that while retaining a good story IMO. So well done, lots of cut scenes and secondary party interaction to immerse you in the story, but really grim. I agree it's the best expression of the Baldur's Gate system, great tactical combat, it's just not the right mood for me. I'm about level 10, not sure if I'm going to finish it out. Too many great games, not enough time.
Yeah, I'll have to get that one. I've been enjoying my first 4X space sim in a while - Sword of the Stars. Very nice little game.
