Karl Rove on Fox is desperately trying to argue that Romney may not be dead yet. This is rather amusing.

Um hold on a second...Ohio may have been called prematurely. At the moment 73% of Ohio precincts have reported in. Its Obama's 2,162,012 50% to Romney's 2,131,776 49%. Ohio's recount rules are if there is a 1/4 of 1% spread then its an automatic recount. Plus you have a ton of the absentee ballots in question.

We may find something new by the morning. I doubt it, but it's possible.

Well, it's only 10:30 pm here in Okie land, so Fox has to dream something up to keep folks watching.

Dear god, the Fox barbie doll is being required to hike across the building in her heels to interview their internal analysts who are now debunking Rove's B.S. This is just too fucking funny.

The old strategy could have worked if Romney wasn't so mediocre as a candidate.

You know what would do that more than Marco Rubio possibly could?

Changing the GOP stance on illegal immigration.

Cuyahoga county is only 49% reporting, much less than the state as a whole. That's where Cleveland is. It's the largest county in Ohio, and it's going 68% for Obama so far. The late reporting districts lean very heavily Obama.

I am incredibly disappointed. Obama is going to go crazy and do everything he wants to that would have cost him reelection.

I'm not under any delusion that Romney will win in a recount. I am just disappointed.

There are groups of Americans that... It's like they're from a different planet.

And Romney wouldn't go crazy? Anyone that supports either Romney or Obama is a clueless retard.

The fact that you think one is better than the other shows just how informed you and the rest of the idiots that voted for both are about your own country.

I don't think so because the meme is set. Once Republicans (and Dems for the most part) acquire the a label it doesn't matter what the facts are.

consider, Democrats are EVERY BIT as much the puppets of rich power brokers that Republicans are...but most ignorant voters persist in believing the Democrats are above associating with the evil rich.

So it shall be here - once you've been labeled as hateful towards latinos, that's what you are - perception becomes reality.

    Gee.

If Romney holds on to the popular vote, I bet all those Dems who screamed about Bush "stealing the election" will be strangely silent about Obama clutching the crown without it.

The Romney people are refusing to concede Ohio at this point. However, even Fox News is saying that there's no chance.

I've been one that's always said if Gore carried his own fucking state, Florida wouldn't be an issue regardless of whether it was rigged.

    Gore lost.

So you don't understand what the issue was in 2000 then. Because it wasn't that Gore won the popular vote. Nobody's bothered by that, any highschool civics student understands that our system can generate a paradoxical result.

No one claimed that Bush winning the electoral college but losing the popular vote was stealing the election. Purging 20,000 legitimate Florida voters from the rolls and stopping the recount in Florida by staging a riot, however . . .

In any event, California is only 22% counted so far, and New York is only about half counted as well. Texas, on the other hand, is 85% in. Obama will end up winning the popular vote by one to three million votes.

For all the people calling doom on the Republican party... isn't a great popular vote showing, 30 republican governors and control of the house generally a good sign a party is doing ok?

I don't think anyone thinks that the Democrats are above associating with the evil rich. Most people know that Kerry was very wealthy, for example, that various people are limo liberals, etc.

But with the Democrats, they also associate themselves with unions and people on welfare and other government programs.

There of course is some level of cognitive dissonance in all voting. For instance, anyone who considered Obama an out-of-touch elitist who then voted for Romney should reflect on that.

Memes can always be reset. If the Republicans were not so deadset on any and all immigration reform, if they were not so excited to pass laws like the Arizona one, maybe some Latino voters would see more areas of common ground with the other parts of the Republican platform.

The complaints about Bush "stealing the election" were not about the fact that he trailed in the popular vote, but rather about how the Supreme Court in a decision even it knew was so sketchy that it went out of the way to say "this decision should not have any value as precedent" held that the Florida recount should be stopped.

Yup, when you look among most other "western" democratic nations, the American right really does seem out of place.

true but the trend is disturbing in a few respects. Most notably, if it turns out that they can't vote enough white folks to balance getting plastered in the black and Latino demographics, that's real trouble because guess which of those are growing and which isn't.

I'm happy to see Obama won.
At the same time, all my best to those who voted for one of the other Presidential Candidates. It didn't work out this time, but who knows what the future holds.

I feel bad for Romney. He's not a bad guy. He is actually more likable than Obama (who is a bit arrogant IMO). Romney just got stuck with a crazy party.

The ones doing so are the far-left Democratic hacks, not those who know that power runs in cycles. But for the real kool-aid drinkers on both sides, hoping the opposition disappears is always such a good feeling. In reality, a party without serious opposition is always a recipe for disaster.

Personally, since I distrust both the Republicans and the Democrats very much (though for different reasons, on different issues), I am glad that they are both doing all right and that they will even have to split power. The Democratic true-believers will blame everything that goes wrong on the Republicans in the House, and the Republican true-believers will blame everything that goes wrong on Obama and the Senate, but the reality is that if either power controlled all three, things would be much worse.

When even intelligent people are advocating "voting for the lesser of two evils," it shows how many Americans realize that both parties are evil. And the only hope of surviving, when you have two evil parties controlling almost all the political power in the country, is to have them against each other, and to have each one strong enough to actually limit the influence of the other one.
