Thanks! Appreciate you giving so many examples. As reluctant as I was to watch an entire five minute Fox News clip, I did watch the whole thing. I figured a video clip titled "Liberals melt down over Elon Musk's Twitter offer" would have some great examples of liberals melting down over Elon Musk's Twitter offer.

Unfortunately, in this five minute clip, I didn't see a single example of liberals melting down over Elon Musk's Twitter offer. I did notice that two minutes in, Fox News purportedly quotes a Wall Street Journal Op Ed that Musk's "offer is causing a meltdown in progressive circles that don't appreciate Mr. Musk as much as when he is building electric cars." But there were no actual examples of progressives melting down over Musk's offer. In fact, if you Google that quote, you won't find it in any WSJ publication. Which, as a conservative publication, you'd think WSJ would want to publish the alleged hypocrisy of the left. And which you, Federal Farmer as a historian, I would assume would want to track down the primary source by posting a link to the purported WSJ itself (but don't bother, you won't find it). But it only pops up on conservative blogs. Which also fail to provide any examples of liberal/progressive meltdowns. Am I missing something?

Hey, this actually had two examples of people on the left criticizing Musk's offer. Not sure that either of them constitutes the entire "left" or that either of them were melting down, but I appreciate the examples!

So this article repeats the same two Twitter posts from the prior example. Which again, I appreciate, but I fail to see how they constitute the left flipping out.

But wait! A Tweet from Robert Reich! Surely he will lose his marbles over--

...that seems pretty reasonable, and actually support your concerns about corporatations stifling free speech. How is that the left flipping out over Musk's offer? I'm not really clear why this is a good example.

"Five liberal media outlets run by billionaires that have criticized Elon Musk's attempted Twitter purchase" and yet they only mention three media outlets? That sounds promising.

And two of these three examples are rehashing some of the above "examples" and the rest are criticisms about Musk before his Twitter offer? I'm not sure how those demonstrate that the left is flipping out about Musk's Twitter offer, when some of those examples predate the offer...causation and all that...

So do you have any actual examples?

But maybe @Uncle Albert could tag in to offer some examples of the left flipping out or melting down about Musk's Twitter offer?

He did, after all, seem to delight from such things:

TWTR is still below $50. Smart money still says this isn’t happening.

Also if you think Musk running Twitter would make it less censorious, you’re stupid. This whole thing is because he couldn’t buy off the user tracking and tweeting about his jet. You think that’ll be welcome on a Musk-owned service?

From a PR perspective it's baffling. No matter what decision you make in control of a social media platform you're going to piss off a lot of people, who in this case will then associate that dissatisfaction with Musks companies like Tesla.

However, if you're rich enough that you don't need your companies to be successful, then it's possible for ego, the need for control, and general megalomania to make those concerns not matter.

Most of Musks worth isn't in cash, it's because of the value of the companies he holds stakes in.

Prediction: If Musk does indeed buy Twitter, the exact same people that are cheering him on as a bastion of free speech that will restore order are going to end up pretty disappointed

Possibly. Aspirations always collide with reality.

But for the people most cheering Musk's takeover, Twitter could hardly get worse.

I was actually interested in purchasing a Tesla, until I found out they're a lot like Netflix.

You have to be connected to the internet for it to be fully-functional.

We will see it by way of them venting about it

These people are never satisfied, spoiled brats that take the most tiny slight against them as a deplorable act against their "freedoms". Professional complainers

Musk isn't loyal to anyone but himself and doesn't fit in either the right or left wing molds we've created, despite people desperately trying to peg him in one or the other

To see these right wing commentators declare this as a huge victory when we don't even know what his plans are outside some vague tweets and are aware of his past is just laughable

How is Twitter bad for these people?

I’m not that concerned with Twitter and how much bank financing Musk uses to take it over. The thing that gets me is all these right wingers screeching about how now we will find out the truth about the shadow bans, and the algorithms, and all the ways free speech has been stifled.

Which is exactly the same crap they pull on their social media. You think an anti-Trump message has any chance on National Review or RedState? Good luck with that.

Our current gauge of the success of a culture war policy is how much the other side howls about it. And the left is howling.

I grant you that, in the long run, this may not be the dream come true many on the right are currently celebrating, but for now it looks like a huge win.
They see people on the right getting banned for going against left wing narratives, left wing narratives being amplified and right wing ones attenuated, bias in the blue checks process, double standards in the enforcement of rules, and branding of some topics as misinformation that have subsequently been shown true or likely.
