Honestly, Twitter isn't good for anyone.

This is all somewhat amusing from my perspective, as I don't participate in social media in any form (except for Teh Wrodforge) yet somehow I've managed to have a successful career and maintain contact with my friends and family.

Well, there's one big takeaway from all this.

Friends and other accounts I follow who have way more followers than me have reported that they've lost hundreds of them in the past few hours.

This is a dumb-ass take and you should feel worse for having shared it.

And yet, none of the various RW Twitter clones have been able to match Twitter's popularity. Strange that.

Elon Musk is talking about verifying accounts. That is the biggest step for enforcing moderation and permabans by eliminating anonimity and the ability to just create a new account if banned. It eliminates socks and also is the start for larger advertising sales. It opens up law enforcement involvement which can involve prosecution for threats and involvement in domestic terrorist discussions and threats.

Elon is not doing this for any other reason than to sell your twitter info and open twitter up to more profit for him. It just has the added effect of making modding and banning a whole lot easier. This will in no way help out the right wing lie machine to own the libs on twitter. You right wing dolts are fucked and are just sheeple to him. Prepare to be fleeced by your new master.

I just have this feeling the right is going to be hugely disappointed in Musk, but they will stay on twitter and most will follow the rules. Musk is in it for the money, and I think he realizes he cannot make twitter toxic to the left without crashing it. Twitter is not toxic to the right despite the professional victim whining. The right wants to yell at the left (and vice versa) on twitter. That is the point and why right wing only echo chambers are never going to be twitter popular. I would be shocked to find out Elon does not recognize that fact. He is not that stupid. He is not going to allow twitter to become so toxic to the left that the left leaves for something better. I do not think Elon will cut off his profits to own the libs.

The left painting this as the death of twitter is also stupid. The death of twitter is the next thing. I do not know what that is or else I would be making it, but something in the future will be the new twitter. A stupid half assed boycott is not going to work without the new twitter being present because twitter is about popularity and right now it is the popular thing. So the boycott will always lose and become fringe because twitter will attract people back like gravity. The more mass you have in an area the more it attracts matter. If stuff tries to escape the gravity well without another gravity well it just falls back into the larger gravity well. Maybe some other planets will be created but Twitter is not being beaten until it explodes and forms a new star.
