Ok, just to recap: You do not think the 2nd Amendment is a guarantee for the rest of the Bill of Rights. When presented with a logical explanation of why it is, you start talking about gun waving, kumquats, and how you can't be bothered with this anymore. Got it.
She can never back up her opinions, she just drops little posts and threads like this one try to get those she HATES (Yes, she hates them) caught up in a "gotcha" situation. That's why I don't even bother arguing with her anymore, I've seen her antics for too long.
Okay. I told you guys I was going out to dinner, and you all immediately rushed in to fill the vacuum, and in a mere two hours have attributed to me a *host* of things that I didn't say. Let me know when you're done, and I'll get back to you.
And here we see standard Garamet Tactic™ #34523: "I didn't say those exact words" The one she uses when everyone gets her meaning, but she pretends she meant something completely different.
It's common knowledge that I'll disappear amidst a pile of paper if I get too close to a bureaucracy. Real nice.
Both are crappy candidates. I agree that both will screw up the economy. We have Obama is too stupid to remember the Carter administration and as a result will model his administration after Carters. We have McCain who claims to be a Reagan conservative when it wasn't all that many years ago he was considering becoming a Democrat. His economic suggestions and especially his spending dreams if he is elected President are only subtly different than Obama's.
And here we see an example of standard Garamet post: "I know you are, but what am I" (you know, the one she never makes)
Nope. I just read the thread again and my summary above still stands. You made a statement, ignored the response, and backed up your position with kumquats and cliches. Your exasperation is understandable given your stubborn insistence on maintaining an untenable position.
Do you want me to answer your posts, or do you just want to keep saying I'm not answering them? I've been working on the answers offline, but I can ditch 'em if you don't want 'em. Let me know.
Right then. Here we go: Your argument does not follow from the first sentence. By “EVERY right is guaranteed by the Second Amendment,” I assumed you meant “If we can’t have what we want, we’ll take it by force if necessary.” If that’s not what you meant, you’re going to have to explain better. See previous response. No, I’m not. I’d invite you to find any post where I said I was. I’m not hostile. I’m frankly dazzled by the rage I’m getting from you. I do not want to take your guns. Honest. What I want is for you to stop attributing things to me that I did not say because you ASSUME that I’m out to take your guns. Now, if you want to continue this conversation, you’re going to have to read what I post, not interpolate what you want me to post because you’re trying to prove that I’m trying to take your guns. Otherwise, there’s no point in continuing this. All very good questions. But it is not in my disposition or my experience to give the same weight to weapons as I do to words. That’s the simplest answer I can give you. I never said it wasn’t an important issue. And you have no idea how I’d vote on the issue. You’re just assuming that because I don’t own a gun I’m the enemy. And you’re assuming, again, that I’m trying to take away your guns. That assumption is based on nothing. My “narrow-minded viewpoint” is: Leave me alone and I’ll leave you alone. I’m not up in your face on this issue, but you sure as hell are up in mine. Any one of those could be worth an hour’s debate. I don't have those hours right now. You’re a states’ rights advocate, are you not? Then what happens in Illinois stays in Illinois, yes? Concern yourself with whatever’s done in your state and at the federal level, and if that’s enough for you not to vote for Obama, fine and dandy. “Forced” who, what? Ah, see, I *knew* that’s what this was all about -! I keep telling you, you do *not* want someone with my vision problems handling weapons. Trust me on this. And I’m not stopping you, so quit yelling at me! His voting record isn’t quite that binary. I know, I know, I’m sorry, Sweetie. But I’m really tired of being characterized as some sort of gun-grabber, when I’m not. I think you’re confusing Obama with Tipper Gore. Nope, nope, nope and nope. Okay, is that everybody?
Is that supposed to be a serious riposte? Because it is so ludicrous and immature it is actually stupifying. Maybe you can see how silly it is with another example: And how would you feel if the First Amendment was about farting? And how would you feel if the Fifth Amendment was about the right to shave your woo-woo? Would you feel the same about it? Come on...the whole exercise is so intellectually barren that it actually makes one embarrassed for you.
Hopefully, illustrated how stupid that tactic is. Or perhaps you are just saying guns are like kumquats in your world, in which case I am agog at your stance and worldview.
Sorry, neither. It seemed for a moment as if you knew exactly what I was trying to do with that question, because you were doing the same thing in your reply, but apparently it was inadvertent. Ah, well, another thread somehow becomes a Gun Thread. It's a kind of inverse alchemy...
Clearly Tamar was doing the EXACT same thing that you were doing, the difference is that she realizes that it's a bullshit tactic and you're under the mistaken impression that it's some kind of brilliantly germane use of reductio ad absurdam.
You're taking it out of context. So what would you like to talk about? Guns, or your fears about an Obama presidency? Or ya just gonna lecture me some more?
Why are you under the mistaken impression that you're actually fooling anyone? No one buys your crap.
It might help if you would just come out and state what you mean then instead of trying to make us guess. I'll even go first: I fully support the second amendment. I don't own a gun...I don't believe I ever will own a gun. But I understand there are a myriad of valid reasons to need or want a gun that have nothing to do with harming another human being and, unfortunately, a couple that do. I also feel that other people's gun ownership has a general effect of lowering the odds of me being robbed or harmed as less people who might otherwise commit crime don't because they don't know who might have a weapon and who does not. As for the OP and original topic....my husband works in the defense industry and I have to deal with the medical industry a lot. I worry about our income, benefits and the potential effect on the medical system the most...it's not FEARRRR at this point...but I am concerned.
Human beings have natural rights. Governments are instituted among men to protect these rights, but very often they infringe on them. We'll KEEP our rights by force if necessary. That's what Ash said, and a far cry from what you interpreted it as. Then why do you support candidates who do? Isn't that the point of a republic? You vote for those who have the same views as you? And I think you're being willfully ignorant. Whaddayagonnado?
