And damn at the opening of the battle with the Dothraki. Just wow. At that point they should all have gone into the castle.
I was hoping that against the odds she'd somehow survived that encounter, but unfortunately not. Go easy, Tiny Mormont.
And the thread title indicates there will be spoilers, so nobody should cry about people posting them.
True but you never know. Some nut might be reading watching and stupidly reading this thread at the same time. We all know who they are but the rules.......
The dagger Arya used was the one that started the whole damn war of the Seven Kingdoms. That was the dagger that the assassin tried to kill Bran with back in season 1 when he was in a coma. Bran got that dagger from Littlefinger and Bran gave Arya that dagger last episode.
How in the hell are they going to dispose of the bodies? Must be thousands of their side and then thousands more on the dead side. All in pieces too. Man that place is going to stink for a long time.
Seriously. My main television is a damn good one, with the display set up properly and such, and it was still damn hard to make out what was happening in some of the scenes. Judging from social media, it was apparently a common complaint.
Dracarys. "Bitch please." And the look on her face was terror. I think that was the first time she was scared shitless.
A little disappointed even though I was thoroughly entertained. So... with three episodes left, it seems like everything will be anti-climactic from here on out... and some of our best questions will go unanswered. The questions that began the show have been concluded with no real answers provided. Who ends up on the iron throne isn’t nearly as interesting to me.
You assume. I think the road is clear to show that Cersei's been the real villain of the whole show all along.
I watched this on a projector while the sun was still out, and with all of my blinds closed. I had to turn it up to damn near maximum brightness until the dragons came into play. All in all, this episode did a great job balancing chaotic action battle scenes with some knuckle clenching tension. Arya's scene in the library was fantastically done. The Hound's fear was gutwrenching. Jamie and Brienne (and Podrick) were fucking crushing it. And I liked the little scene Sansa and Tyrion had in the crypt...so much was said without either of them speaking a word. Peter Dinklage has always been a great actor in my eyes, but Sophie Turner has been impressing the hell out of me this season, especially with that scene. And Lyanna Mormont went out in a blaze of glory. I cannot believe how commanding of a presence that actress had throughout the battle (and in everyone scene she's ever been in). She had a bigger presence than most of the adults. RIP little bear. My only disappointment was that Sam cowered like a little bitch...which was not entirely out of character for him, but was surprising because of how much more sure of himself he'd become, and because he was the first one to kill a White Walker.
Am I the only one when she took the first club hit, thought that was her anti-climatic end, and had to stifle a snicker? But, of course, she got back up, and went out like a boss anyway. They kinda faked you out for a few seconds though.
I beg to differ. Cersei and the Iron Throne are the McGuffin. Always have been. From the moment the show started, the true villain, the real threat was the White Walkers. How many times have we heard that? I honestly think the show runners know the books will end differently and they did this so they won’t step on GRRM’s toes. It’s OK, like I said, I was completely entertained, but I am disappointed.
Hmm well I was half right. I suspected that the Night King was not the true villain of the show. He has no personality, how could he be? I agree with Alphaman that the books will give us a lot more info on the Great Other, the White Walkers, the Night's King and other stuff the show just doesn't have time for. But I figured the Iron Throne was always the main plot. In order for the Night King to be the true villain this battle would have had to take place in episode 5 or 6. Now the Night King is dead and we still have 3 long episodes to go. And its a long way from Winterfell to King's Landing. Was right about who survived. And got Melisandre right... but she didn't bring anyone else with her. I was hoping for a small army of red priests from Essos. Right about half the deaths: Night King, Jorah, Edd, Theon, Lyanna, Beric. Wrong about the rest. Mormonts definitely got the best death scenes. Did we see what happened to Grey Worm, Gendry, Tormund, and Podric? They didn't get any special death scenes so I'm not sure if they survived or not. I was surprised Bran didn't die. And I was surprised that Jon didn't actually do much. It was Arya who destroyed the entire White Walker army. Such a G. Give her the fucking Iron Throne. She deserves it more than anyone. She basically saved the entire world.
Okay, so why didn't they lead off the attack with the dragons? They basically wasted the Dothraki by throwing them in first. And if Melisandre hadn't shown up to light their blades, they'd have gone in with weapons that wouldn't have even worked. :/ Airstrikes could have seriously reduced the walkers' numbers before contact. That said, the shots of dragons soaring about the clouds were amazing. Is Drogon the only one left now? I saw the other one prang, but I didn't get if he was killed. And Arya. Damn, girl!
Well, I liked it more than this guy, but what he writes here is pretty much sums up what I'm talking about. Jon came back from the fucking dead... for what? To take the throne from Cersei? Is that the major concern of the Lord of Light? Remember when Dany walked out of Drogo's funeral pyre unharmed with 3 baby dragons? All of that was to prove to Cersei that her selfishness was not cool? After 8000 years, the Night King and the White Walkers were OK with living in The Land of Always Winter, so why did they start to march South at this point in time? Is Arya Azor Ahai now? All of that prophecy was ultimately meaningless in the end? Why did Brandon the Builder build the wall? Why did he name the Stark castle Winterfell? Why must there always be a Stark in Winterfell? Is it all just bullshit? Again, I did enjoy this episode but it doesn't seem like the "real" end to the battle between the living and the dead. I hope that at some point, GRRM gets to finish the books. I've grown concerned that he may never get to it and this show is all that we'll ever get but now I'd be very disappointed if that's true.
Jon and Danerys are shit tacticians. The dragons should’ve been used to atrit the dead long before any of the ground forces came into contact. Air support really fucked the dog.
Hell, the zombie dragon could have obliterated Winterfell if he'd been unleashed, and the other two could have obliterated the dead army given a chance. And what the hell did ghost do? A few shots of him ripping walkers apart would have been appreciated.
I don’t think the showrunners appreciate just how invested fans are with what happens to Ghost. Did he even make it through the fight?
Don’t forget arty. What? 3 volleys from the trebuchets before stopping when the Dothraki hit their line and then even after the Dothraki were broken, never started firing again? And why position them in front of your line? 2nd highest casualty producing weapons on the field (behind dragons) and they are barely used and first to fall. Speaking of the Dothraki, what a waste of light cav to just run straight on. Should have hit from the sides and rear once the dead had engaged the infantry. Also, the ‘TO THE WALLS’ thing 10 minutes after everyone was back in the gates really pissed me off. Where did everyone think they were supposed to be? Why weren’t they there already? As to the walls, a castle with no hot oil? Against an enemy susceptible to fire you’d think it a good idea. Speaking of which, Daenerys doesn’t know how to make Dragon’s Fire? None of the Maesters do? You’d think Sam would have looked it up while at the Citadel.
So Arya didn’t come out of nowhere: https://www.buzzfeed.com/jennaguill...ic&utm_campaign=bffbbuzzfeed&ref=bffbbuzzfeed
They stupidly thought they could flush out the Night King, and they could save the dragons for the coup de grace. They also thought the Night King could burn.
Also, does everyone think Jorah is really dead? For some reason I feel like he’ll make it. Last episode made a point of pointing out that Jorah and Lyanna were the last Mormonts. Also, Sam giving Jorah Heartsbane would close the circle on the ancestral sword front, completing Jorah’s redemption. Jorah’s crimes forced Joer to take the Black. Jonah had left Longtooth behind which Joer took with him. Joer gave Longtooth to Jon. Meaning Mormont has no ancestral sword. Jorah had done permanent damage to the House. By taking Heartsbane he’d fixed that, but if there is no Mormont then he didn’t really. Would putting Melisandre’s necklace on save him?
