Steam is a web platform where you purchase, download, and access games.

One consumer noticed this "narrative consulting firm" as the common element in shitting up games he bought, so he took their list of titles from THEIR public web site, and published it as a public "curator list" on Steam so that other customers could make informed choices.

An employee at Sweet Baby Inc. got severely butthurt about this, and tried to lead a mob of people to abuse Steam's reporting system to get the list taken down and have thus customer's library of purchased games taken away from him. (Steam told the lunatics to pound sand. )

Had this lunatic at Sweet Baby not done that, nobody would know or care about Sweet Baby Inc. They are not persecuted victims.

As with many bullshit things this can at least partially be tied back to Reagan. Home video games first coming on the scene coincided with Reagan legalizing the direct targeting of children in marketing. So while in the past advertisers had to focus on the parents of children to sell things now they could directly target the children themselves. And since surveys at the time showed that parents spent much more money on boy children over girl children the video game companies targeted boys. So 99% of all the games at the time were marketed towards boys and these man children still mentally live in that world and they think that’s the natural order of things. All video games should inherently be focused on boys.

But it is not the 80s any more. Adults play video games. And women and minorities have disposable income. So video game manufacturers arent just focusing on boys. And even games that are children oriented parents these days are more willing to spend on girls.. There’s still a divide between spending on girls and boys but it is not nearly as bad as it was in the 80s. So now the games are starting to diversify and not only cater to the whims of little boys These boys are getting very VERY upset, as can be seen above.

Video games are dumb. Stare at a glowing rectangle and press buttons? That's no different from office work. So, instead of getting paid to do office work like a normal person, people pay hundreds to thousands of dollars so they can do essentially office work? The entire situation beyond the Steamgate story is somewhat more nuanced and convoluted, but SBI can go fuck themselves.
