After stating the percentage of customers I should have immediately pointed out that men both buy more games and more expensive games so sales numbers skew more heavily towards men.

I could have then used this point to go into how in terms of business expansion that means that women are currently an underserved/undertapped market that the video game companies see as high growth.

Did any of you hear of the IGN-France article about Stellar Blade, and how the author lambasted the studio for 'having never seen a woman' and 'had to be incels' (paraphrasing) in designing the lead character? Turns out the studio hired a model, used her body for the main character's, and used greenscreen mo-cap. This, and related shit from companies like Sweet Baby Inc, are what's pissing me off. And I'm going to go on a limb is what @Uncle Albert's driving at.

By all fucking means, give me diversity in games. But make it (narratively) natural, not for the sake of ticking off checkboxes.

Set aside the 'is that what a woman is supposed to look like' argument -- that's a related, but different topic, and one I can certainly agree -- I assume you agree that the initial IGN-France article pre-edit was disingenuous at best?

What does that even mean? Diversity is a real thing that happens in the real world, regardless of any "narrative."

Using character types that would be inappropriate in a historical setting, for example. I'll use a reverse example -- having a European character in a pre-Columbian Aztec or Incan setting. Oh, and make them gay to sell the diversity.

That said, that's one strength where games that allow customized playable characters have -- it allows the player to craft how their character should look and what their backstory might be (useful for MMOs in roleplay settings; WoW and FF14 allow this to flourish). I'd describe my main character in 14 as a Bengali elf with red eyes in plain terms.

I have a feeling this sort of thing is a problem that will correct itself. If the people of sweet baby whatever cannot create a game that attracts a new group of players, then they will go away from, big titles and be relegated to niche gametitles. It is the theory behind go woke and go broke. Popular high selling video games may be the domain of the INCEL crowd, and if you want to be in the market you have to cater to them because there is no desire to play video games in a more feminine market.

If go woke go broke does not apply and there is an untapped market then sorry to INCEL CHUDs, but your time as the only demo that matters in the marketplace is limited, and you will just have to suck it the fuck up, man the fuck up, and deal with female gamers kicking your motherfducking useless ass like everyone else.

As someone who's worked in a bunch of different areas of the games industry over the last two decades and has friends and colleagues across many facets of it, it's laughable seeing these fragile men who complain that any inclusion is just due to bowing to pressure.

I liked what WOW did with the ability to make armors look like other armors so you could get the best of the best, but also get what you thought was the best looking armor out there. Have they done anything more since Pandaland?

I actually liked playing EQ again after all the years because they had really made it so you could play all the races and let you really customize your avatar look. They really ended up eliminating the old world with a new world that hadf everyone playing the same paths with the differing races. I may go back and see what WOW has done since I left, but I do not really want to commit that much time to guild shit anymore.
