It's a fine and fun little system, except for the fact your admins can't seem to not interfere in it.

If rep is assigned by the admins, there isn't much point to it, is there?

Admins using unlimited rep to assign people the scores they feel are appropriate is an abuse of the system.

There's not much point to rep, as opposed to comments, in any event. I'd be happy to see unlimited comments with all comments or just all "disagrees" comments weighted as zero rep, but either way,

So long as it's not done for trolling purposes it really doesn't matter. If that's the worst admin abuse we see then this board must have the best admins on the internet.

Couldn't we just get rid of admins that manage to create shitstorms? I mean, it helped loads when Listkeeper got relegated to Chat Nazi only. I think Tamar got canned about the same time. But the big E has a soft spot for her, so she had her old job back in about 3 days. :cylon:

You guys really do like to bitch about anything, dontcha?

This is nothing, I'm sure if Tamar really wanted to cause a shit storm she could do much better. :borg:

    This isn't Tamar's play room.

    It's everyone's play room.

If you didn't learn 'admins shouldn't play favorites', you should have at least got out of preschool 'did you bring enough for everyone.'

Admins arbitrarily assigning rep is bullshit, because unlike everyone else they have unlimited rep.

So when they start abusing the system, it's becomes 'only the admins matter.'

So, yes, if it means you can't be 'sane' and work here, then that's fine.

    I'd prefer 'smart' and 'principled.'

It was a joke on April Fools - that's why nobody cared. And IIRC everyone had the same capability.

It reducing it's function as a comment system as well, because it turns people off to using it whatsoever.

Perhaps a better function would be to turn rep off and give everyone unlimited ability to comment.

That is kinda sorta how a BBS like Wordforge works, ya know . . . Altho I get that you're referring to the "comment in post" feature that's part of the rep system.

Meh. Tear it out, I don't care. It's just a toy. You guys take it waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too seriously.

I think it's a fun aspect of the board.

But I think it's ridiculous that one admin can override everyone else's input into the system.

All it would take is the admins limiting themselves to the same limit per day as everyone else.

I would expect that as a matter of fairness.

You can't have 'admins are just like everyone else on the board, except totally different rules apply.'

Oh, Tamar, I just gave Aenea some negrep.

Could you override that please? Obviously my desire to neg rep here doesn't matter compared to your desire to assign the rep people deserve.

This makes no sense. Rep is given for all kinds of nonaggregatable reasons: trolling, jihad, agreement, disagreement, simply to raise rep, appreciation of a post, and to note that a post is a particularly good or bad post. When you try to aggregate these things, the result measures nothing. How exactly does a meaningless kind gesture override a completely meaningless result, and to whatever extent it does, why does it bother you this much?

It is amazing how a innocent attempt to do something nice and fun can be twisted into something nasty. :jayzus:

Do you hate the rep you got so much? If you don't want it, just remind me how much it was and I will be happy to subtract it off your total if that's what you prefer.

I always sort of think of the staff in the manner of Greek Gods, on Mount Olympus, up above us all with additional powers, but still basically human, bickering amongst themselves and capriciously using their powers to help or hinder those Mere Mortals that amuse or offend them. :cylon:

*Attempts to issue out thousands of rep points, administratively, without having to search for and rep individual posts*

What do you know? You're right. She has no more power than the ordinary members. :marathon:

I'm really not particularly worked up about this. I'm just pointing out that it is ridiculous to claim that the staff has no more power on this board than anyone else. And the fact that Tamar has used admin rights for personal reasons--particularly without telling the board's actual admins shows why us Unwashed Masses don't necessarily trust The Eliteforge Powers That Be. :cylon:

As far as whatever rep I got, I don't particularly care. Feel free to take it away if you remember what it is.

And certainly I don't care about Face's rep.

But there's lot's of subtext to rep. It shouldn't be the Admin's decision as to who has how much rep and why.

If that's how the system is going to be used it should be eliminated. It's just ridiculous elitism, and unfair to the majority of users here.

I have no idea what you're talking about. :bergman:

That said, apostle did begin his slide into the red shortly after starting his "join the coalition" thread, announcing his plans to launch a rep war against his various liberal enemies. It's probably a good thing someone stopped him before he started, lest some partisan rep war actually begin.
Meh. It was a kind gesture. No one got any taken away, except apostle, who requested it.

Were you this outraged when Tasvir and Darkening had their rep manually set to the lowest rep possible? Or when Elwood reset Tasvir to zero?

Seems to me like it's bad form to complain about random acts of kindness, expecially surrounding something as meaningless as rep, especially if it's not related to any sort of rep war, if such things actually existed.
