I'm agreeing with the principle behind Demiurge's posts, i.e. "Did you bring enough for everybody?"

No? Then what's the purpose? You thought you were being "nice"? How is randomly showering varying amounts of unearned rep arbitrarily on some posters and not others "nice"?

I ask this even though I was apparently one of the posters who got extra rep, though I couldn't tell you how much.

If you guys want Tamar to step down, I volunteer to take her place as admin. I'll do nothing, and I mean, seriously, NOTHING. Heck, I'm hardly even here. I think that would make everyone happy.

There are just simply some people who want to attribute evil to every single thing I say and do. :jayzus:

And those of you who want to get rid of me...do me a favor and let Elwood know about it. Maybe if enough of you let him know he will finally let me go without it being me hurting his feelings or leaving him the lurch.

Anyway, it's a stupid system, but I think the people who actually care about it are even more stupid still, so meh.

How is this different than what I did on the evening of May 5th, 2006? I was extremely bored that night and went through every single post on the front page of The Red Room. I gave a pos rep to each and every one. Nobody complained. :marathon:

Of making a meaningless number slightly higher?
I believe the criteria was "who deserves more rep," or something like that.

Regardless, free rep is still meaningless, possibly even more meaningless than regular rep. It's like getting a gold star from the teacher.

Is it possible to actually max it out?

Couldn't you get a 2nd row of red pips?

This is like the governor of your state giving candy to a bunch of people. Some had some, some didn't some wanted to get rid of it (apostle) some complained that theirs was taken away (rep whiners) Who the fuck cares? It's all a bunch of shit! It's not like just because she added rep to a bunch of people (whom others were suggesting in chat, I might add) that tomorrow she's going to ban anyone she doesn't like

Given that many, including Tamar herself, have referred to rep by concepts of competition, such as quoting the rep-ordered member list, that's disingenious.

But the real prize goes to anyone who spends time and effort changing rep levels, and then defends themselves by saying it doesn't matter to them.

I thought the staff guidelines were pretty clear, never do anything in secret and only use staff tools/access when necessary and appropriate.

We are not supposed to periodically abuse our access to generate drama. And this is the worst kind of drama, it creates an us vs. them dynamic that always ends with us playing BBS Lawyer Ball for team Eliteforge. And that's never a good time for anybody.

Personally I enjoy giving and receiving rep, it's a fun system, and a system that should be left alone. Especially considering the official stance is that rep is for fun and the staff doesn't get involved.

Lordy, Tamar, get off your cross.

This isn't evil. But it's an unfair use of your powers. You shouldn't be the arbitrator of rep. You must have given out hundreds of rep to some posters to move them as much as you did.

I'd be quite happy having you as an admin if you could use better judgement.

    But you consistently don't.

Why should you get to determine what people's rep levels are? What makes you the person that should be able to do that?

That being said, you've given a lot to the board and your personality, your friendliness, and your feistiness at times has definitely made the board a better place. Wordforge wouldn't be what it is without you.

But an admin first and foremost has to be fair and impartial, and you just don't seem to be able to do that.

The rep 'game' has meaning to a lot of people. More than it should certainly, but meaning none the less - just like folks back at TrekBBS used to compete over post count.

Why is it so hard to not interfere in that?

    Well, couple of things.

One, you are the board owner, so people aren't going to complain.

Two, you didn't hand out many hundreds of rep to a single user. I may be mistaken here, but from the conversation that's what Tamar did - some people went from one pip to five. How much rep is that?

One of Tamar's comments was rep was 'rounded up to the next thousand' for several users.

She gave out many hundreds if not thousands of rep in one sitting.

That's not the same thing as going in and scattering rep on a page like you did.

    Not even close.
