Plus he did it impartially. What was the wording? "To any post on the front page of the Red Room"? Second, it was less egregious. He took the time and effort to go into every post and rep it. This is essentially what we can do--only he has unlimited rep.

Now Tamar..."Hmmm...I feel like raising...Baba's! rep score. I think I'll change it to...600 points!" ZORT! Administratively changed. She didn't dig up 500 Baba posts and posrep each and every one of them BANG she just went into the database and deleted out the 1 and plugged in a 6. "Who else amuses me? Let's give...Scorponok! some points. ..."

Jesus Fucking Christ people, go outside and get a life. You're taking this shit waaay too seriously.

IMHO this is at best a Red Room issue, the fact that it's here says tons about the whiners. Frankly I am surprised to see some on that ship.

When the rubber hits the road it boils down to this, nobody really cares.

I just don't get all the Tamar hate. Makes absolutely no sense to me. I smell jealousy in the water.

Tamar hate? I can't think of anyone who hates Tamar.

Consider the situation with a generic staff member instead of a specific one.

Keep in mind that crusading for apathy is an oxymoronic endeavor.

Tamar has already stated that whomever she gave rep to came about as a direct result of chat, who was there, and who was suggested.

Yes, I did recieve rep. I don't care all that much, not enough to tear the whole system down. It may well be all gone tomorrow, and I'll be back at zero.

You know who cares about their rep? Apostle. You really want to be on the same side as apostle in an arguement about... anything? :ramen:

Actually, this was probably a great move on Tamar's part. As Demiurge said, Tamar handing out rep on a whim has made the whole thing pointless.

Which is exactly how it should be. I'd like to see everybody stop taking the rep wars and other idiocy less seriously. Rep has made this place like a school yard at times.

Maybe Tamar should keep adjusting rep levels for everybody... until the whole thing becomes useless... then we can forget about it and move on.

As a newbie, I'm not going to weigh in on the "should we or shouldn't we" argument. But, I do want to let everyone know how seriously some people take it.

Two people who signed on around the same time I did, two people who are in the military and have access to the same machine, were accused of being duals. Not because they have the same posting style or similar views, but because a mod checked their IP address and guess what - it was the same.

Both these posters are friendly and contribute to conversations and yet because of the trouble they receieved when they first signed on, they are both still in the red.

If you're going to set anyone's rep at zero or even 'just give them' several hundred points, I would think that those two would have been at the top of the list.

    just my opinion ...

While I'm not sure whether you're joking, I think this actually might be the best solution for everyone. Instead of getting rid of rep, as Demiurge suggested, or setting everything back to zero, as Ramen (quite sensibly, IMO) suggested, reset the system by setting everyone to max green. We'll all be able to leave short comments on every post, and the whole competitive aspect will be as moot as Tamar says it already is and wants it to be.

Or, as several of us have said numerous times, make it neutral - a function for commenting ["Brilliant!"]["Your idea sucks!"] that can't be turned into a rep war or an arbitrary admin whim.

Why is that so difficult for some people to understand?
