I'm just waiting for a solution. Leftforge says it's not about taking away guns, then what is the solution to the topic? So far all I see is attacks against gun owners and bitching about guns.

I asked @Anna what the solution was early on and have yet to get a response.

On that tangent, I assume you also agree that voter ID laws should not burden poorer persons as well? :?: :diacanu:

I must have missed the post, since I don't spend much time here anymore and the above response to Pales in was typed out a few hours ago before I got a call and forgot about it.

Maybe the NRA should put at least as much emphasis on the "take your responsibilities as a gun owner seriously" narrative as they do on the "evil Democrats are out to get your guns" narrative.

IIRC the NRA is one of the leading (perhaps the leading) organization for gun training and safety in the United States.

This was all you need to say. The rest is just you pulling out your penis and waving it around at everybody. Nobody gives a damn that you have a penis.

This is negotiable. And, certainly not by any - ANY nationally recognized gun rights groups. They've already proven they can and will be beholden to gun manufacturers rather than the safety of the people.

Why should this group be singled out? Everyone pays taxes. You get to too.

Why? Does mental illness and violence run in families? So, if the original owner checks out, then all his/her children are automatically, non-violent and law-abiding?

No. EVERYbody gets a background check.

Explain to me why you should be able to give your emotionally stunted, violent, abusive adult child your gun when you die, when he was unable to obtain one legally himself?

An unfortunate counter-reaction to the hardcore anti-gun groups that came about since Brady. I don't like how extremist it's become either, and LaPierre is a poor spokesman, but it's an understandable turn. They still preach safety, though. I mentioned the Eddie eagle program earlier. It's primary message to children is "If you see a gun, don't touch it, get away from it, and tell an adult." And NRA is still a strong sponsor of training and safety programs. Their political arm (NRA Institute for Legislative Action) is a separate entity.

They do. Go to to their website and there is plenty of information available for gun safety courses. They also send this information consistently to their members via magazines. What more do you want?

Wrong again. The NRA promotes gun safety and The NRA-ILA is a seperate company that lobbies for gun rights. Get your facts straight

They have an imaging problem then. They spend way more time and energy promoting paranoia than they do responsibility.

You have to understand, there are a lot of people who grow up without any positive associations with guns. To them, guns only mean pain and death. Instead of working to assuage these fears, gun owners just hunker down and say, "Fuck you! You ain't gettin' my guns!" Counter-productive.

If tomorrow, I say a bunch of kids got mowed down at a school , no one's bothered, but I threaten to slice the balls off one little T.R. then people are offended.

What's stopping me from doing that now? Nothing. It's perfectly legal due to the so called "gun show loophole". At least with the UBC, law enforcement will be able to trace the gun back to the owner if it's used in a crime. The family member exemption was actually part of the UBC law that the Democrats tried to pass after Sandy Hook. Additionally, all states that have unilaterally expanded background checks have that exemption.

If you want anything to get done, both sides are going to need to compromise.

    I'm willing to compromise.

But, just because the Democrat majority in whichever government entity allowed an exemption for family members does not mean I will.

The laws now do not cover much of anything, so why would I continue that?

I'm looking for REAL solutions, not fellating each other to the point where no real solutions are happening.

So, regardless of what is on the books now, that's what I'm putting on the table. All inheritors of firearms must be subject to a background check.

And whose fault is that? The NRA, the guns or those communities which failed to teach basic right from wrong?

They do but ob the flip side you have to understand that these are people who were raised on the proper way to handle weapons and would never use them to harm another human being except in self defense. Yet every time a tragedy happens, before we even know all the facts, the response from the left is to blame the NRA and gun owners.

Respect has to be a two way street or it won't exist in any relationship.

Generally, when life takes me away, I don't announce it here. However, since we have finally gotten to a point where we are actually having a conversation about gun legislation and would like to continue, I'll tell you now. I'm going to be out of town for a couple days and will not be posting on here. However, please quote me or tag me in a post to remind me to come back to this conversation Saturday afternoon/evening or Sunday.
