pretty sure we've still got Asian human trafficking going on and have since the transcontinental railroads... of course, it's indenture rather than flat out slavery.

good point Spaceturkey about human trafficking/indentured servitude: it's a huge problem and because it goes on right underneath our noses/hiding in plain sight it's tough to investigate and get convictions. Atlanta is a hotbed of human trafficking. BTW when the article talks about "entertainment" they mean strip clubs. Also there are underground sex clubs that are unregulated (duh) where teens and drug addicts are exploited.

Speaking of actions, I can't help but point out that you have failed to argue the point and are simply conducting an ad hominem attack, like always. :diacanu:

You are aware that you were the one who interjected "collective guilt" into the conversation, correct? As there was no prior mention of collective guilt, perhaps you can point out the exact words in my response that you considered a personal attack. :bailey:

 Classic alt-right technique, right up there with "If you call me a racist, you're the racist!" They're using English words to create something along the lines of NotEnglish.

I think he only shot him once. Claims it was a hang fire, which is doubtful, but possible I guess. I don't know much about Commie handguns.

I'm torn. The kids in the car he shot at totally seem to have been wannabe criminals driving around and stealing shit, and I would have no trouble believing him if he'd claimed it was a warning shot that just happened to hit them and pled guilty to careless use of a firearm...

But for him to claim there was something wrong with the gun and for the jury to acquit him based on that feels more like a 100% white jury deciding it doesn't matter if a native "thug" dies. :(

Well by all means how 14th Doctor "feels" about the acquittal must certainly be gospel. They can save valuable resources in the future by not even having a trial - 14th doc can declare the defendants guilty or innocent. Canadian taxpayers will jump for joy!

From what I've read there is a possibility he had a hang fire.

A hang fire is where you pull the trigger, nothing happens, but the powder is still burning and eventually the bullet comes screaming out of the gun. Hang fire is a very dangerous situation.

Here's a military example. They are shooting and the gun stops. The solider is taking the rounds out of the weapon and examining the gun when the bullet finally pops out. Fortunately the round just went into the dirt but notice it was almost 15-16 seconds from trigger pull to bullet leaving the barrel. Most hang fires happen faster than that.

The guy in this case was using an old used gun from a former communist country AND he was using ammo that was 60 years old.

He was an idiot for using such a weapon because you just can not guarantee such a weapon is still up to the task in a situation like this. He was an idiot for assuming there was only two rounds in the gun. He was also an idiot for using 60 year old ammunition.

I think though what got him off in the juries eye was that he fired two warning shots, he ran over to the car to see if they had run over his wife as apparently they had already hit another vehicle on his property, and the big one is that he didn't claim self defense. When they pulled the dead guy out of the vehicle a gun fell out of the car with the dead guy. All he had to do was say, "I thought he was going to shoot me" and there probably wouldn't even have been a trial.

Also it helps when the state witnesses are caught lying or giving testimony that is obviously wrong.

That doesn't surprise me at all. Tokarev's were junk, are junk, and always will be junk. I wouldn't even know where to get ammo for them and I'm willing to bet any ammo that does exist for them is at least 50+ years old.

For those playing the home game: Tokarev's were designed in the late 1930's and manufactured during the 1940's to be the standard sidearm for Soviet military and police. But, they were so pitiful that the Soviets, paragons of precision engineering and design, replaced them after only ten years with the Makarov.

Yes 14th Doctor people can have opinions. Thankfully only the actual jury members' opinions count, not the "jury of public opinion."
Thus the state has to prove it's case. "Better ten guilty men go free....." and all that stuff.

BTW hang-fires are no joke! When I was in military if memory serves me the rule of thumb was wait a full minute on a hang-fire before taking further action.
