The problem is the crazies are very loud because of trump right now, and the moderates are not jumping around and cursing out kids because they think Alex Jones is how you should behave. The happy go lucky gun guy isn't making news and they are not helping to calm down the crazies in their midst. In the short term there may not be many politicians willing to loudly defend gun rights in the wake of a tragedy, but most politicians know that long term, Americans care more about their rights to self-defense than kowtowing to liberal reactionaries and propagandists exploiting crises to achieve political ends.
