Well, that would be part of it.
Here's an extremely simplified definition, but I would not limit it to just that definition.
A republican, that is, a person who favors a republic, who may or may not be a member of their country's "Republican Party".

Oh, you buy into that "we're not a democracy we're a republic" bullshit the fascist oligarchs are ladling out.
    Of course you do.

We are a republic, have always been and it has nothing to do with what the imaginary fascists you've built in your head have said. It is established in the constitution and re-enforced by the Federalist Papers. This is not a talking point and is not subject to debate, it is a fact. Not a fucking thing to do with the propagandists you listen to that think that everything you disagree with is fascism.

The difference between representative democracy and a republic is the difference between a tomato and another tomato.
And no one is arguing for pure democracy.
The oligarchs are trying to drive that imaginary wedge so when they destroy democracy, they can say they're "defending the republic".
You're exactly the type to fall for it.

BTW, pure democracy means we all vote on every little thing like a syndicalist commune without representatives.
It doesn't mean "everyone gets a vote" making the antidote "only the right kind of people should vote".

It doesn't matter. The US government is nether, regardless of what it was originally intended. The US, since Citizens United passed, is an oligarchy.

We are indeed a democracy - a representative democracy. That's what all Constitutional Republics are.

All the power of the government comes from the consent of the governed - that was literally the first words of the declaration of independence on why we had to revolt against the British.

You should be very wary of people that imply anything different. It's an objective truth, and anyone saying otherwise is either vastly ignorant or has sinister ulterior motives.

If that was absolutely true then Biden wouldn't be President, Harris wouldn't be VP, Pelosi wouldn't be speaker of the House, and Schumer wouldn't be Senate Majority Leader.

It does mean that there are more Republicans in power than should be, and we have to fight very damn hard to educate voters.

But money isn't the only thing that matters.

Is representative democracy a form of democracy?

Is there any country in the world that IS a direct democracy?

I'll answer that for you. Not a one.

So democracy means representative democracy as it is practiced in the entire world - and in the US.

Are you beginning to see why they phrase it that way when it is so obviously a lie?

Our form of government is a republic in which we elect representatives through democratic means. That doesn’t make us a democracy. A representative republic would be more accurate.

FF (and by extension his propaganda puppetmasters) are trying to make "democracy" synonymous with direct democracy.
When everyone drawing breath on this planet who isn't a far-right shill understands, and 100% of us USED to understand, that when you say "democracy" you MEAN representative democracy under a democratic republic, because that's the only democracy that exists on the fucking planet currently.

FF (and by extension his propaganda puppetmasters) are being such anal robot dictionary sticklers on this, because they're scared that the commie cabal is going to try to sneak in direct democracy through the word "democracy" even though we've all been using it the way I just described (and therefore correctly) for fucking centuries.

    Why?
    Because fashies are paranoid motherfuckers.
