Well, let's see. If you base the purchase price on a multiple of EBITDA ... I'm pretty sure that would mean Lanzman paying you to take it.
It'd be easy for you to scrub your posts lest some of your wife beating were to come to light in your political endeavors And I'm sure if Lanz were to sell, he'd give it over to someone that can actually stay enployed longer than two days at a time. In other words, even Diacanu has a better shot than you.
But in all seriousness, how much would an upgrade cost? Is it something that the membership would or could pony up money for? And is it something Lanz takes care of, or does O2C (who I just realize I haven't seen in a while ) push the buttons to make it go? Scorp mentioned here or in another thread that there's no point in brining in new members if the board will crash with any extra traffic, and he's got a point on that. That's really the biggest problem this board has nowadays, the recent Clyde bruhaha notwithstanding.
http://www.vbulletin.com/purchases/ That's the software costs then there would be implementation costs unless someone here is good enough to do it for free.
Between O2C and Nick, the two of them have done about 99 percent of all the upgrade work over the life of the board.
From how I understand it, the problem is more that various changes have been made to the board which wouldn't carry over in an upgrade.
This keeps coming up, and the universal response is that we value stability over the tweaks. The follow-up from people knowledgeable is that most of the Wordforge tweaks are actually baked in to the new version. This Wordforge is too special for upgrades claim doesn't fly.
Aye, when Lanzman tried to use this tired excuse for inaction (anyone else noticing a pattern?) back in June, EVERY. SINGLE. FUCKING. POSTER. that addressed it said that getting a stable board was more important than hacks. Some even commented that most of our hacks are now features so no loss. Lanz then commented that he was going to look into upgrading. But considering this is the exact same thing he said in AUGUST OF LAST YEAR in response to the board being unstable as fuck (yes it's been that long), I have to doubt his sincerity.
WF isn't The Millennium Falcon, where bringing it to factory specs ruins it. It's more like Enterprise, and we're already up to F anyway.
How would you report posts and try to manipulate the mods into warning your detractors if you did that?
Most likely he would re-write the rules to protect himself. Then add Ads and a paypal link to "recoup his investment". Of course, I'm sure some folks wouldn't stick around for a Dayton regime at all.
What tweaks does Wordforge have that are unique that some wouldn't want to see them go to make the board more stable?
None that I can think of. Almost every board software out there has at least the number of features Wordforge has.
Some of us might very well be willing to chip in and contribute to the cause, but can we really be trusted not to troll or flame in the other forums or otherwise misbehave and then not expect Lanz to be beholden to us because we donated to the board? Knowing the nature of Wrodforge, I think Lanz is doing the right thing. He owns the board, he pays the bills, and it's his board to make the decisions about. He doesn't owe any of us shit. Especially Anc. You post here, then it's his board, his rules.
From what I've seen in The Shelter it looks like this: Lanzman: Let's upgrade the board. O2C: There is a good chance we might lose all our old posts. Lanzman: That's not acceptable. *silence for 6 more months*
Going back to the original topic, if we had a "Supreme Court," people I'd suggest off the top of my head are (in alphabetical order) ... Asyncritus Elwood evenflow Forbin Frontline John Mrs. Albert Nova shootER All generally well-respected, stable people who I think members of all persuasions and personalities (well, OK, most persuasions and personalities) would trust to be fair.
So, when are you gonna stop bitching about rep? I seem to remember you wanting to all but lynching Lanz over that decision. Just stop pretending this has anything to do with what a wonder board owner we have and all to do with seeing Anc and Chup miserable. You're not staff, so you neex not be impartial.
My opinion has always been the same - Make a back-up, give everybody a bit of notice to save their favorite/most important threads just in case everything goes to hell in a hand-basket. And upgrade away. Creating/maintaining a WF archive isn't a big priority. Most of the discussions are topical and disposable, much like day to day exchanges, sure the occasional call back happens but even those tend to be lame. Functionality is more important.
I'm staff and I need not be impartial in the Red Room. We're all members here, free to enjoy all the forums. Volunteering to answer questions, occasionally moving threads, changing thread titles, and releasing Shelter threads, doesn't mean you can't participate in the Red Room like every other member. Said volunteers don't deserve any sort of elevated status, or increased scrutiny. That said, complaining about rep and the owner is a mainstay of Wordforge.
I only bitch about rep when somebody else brings it up, as was the case here. If you ask my opinion on something, you'll get it.
And I don't recall wanting to lynch Lanz. I disagreed with the decision to nerf rep and still do, but it is what it is.
