Well.....in what state did this occur? Anywho, it looks like the teen pushed the kid with his foot more than kicked him. Way back when I was a kid I punched a mentally handicapped person. He didn't have Downs, he just wasn't right in the head. He hit me first, but it caused me no real harm, and I chased him down and threw the mother-of-all haymakers and laid him out - pretty much like in this vid. If this were today of course I'd have better judgement....kids make mistakes - but any adult doing this is insane. But who knows at what angle the dad was seeing it? We just don't know yet.
Of course, upon CLOSER EXAMINATION, he might have known it was a Down's kid. But it looks like the father had less than 3 seconds between the downy kicking the tot and his fist hitting his face. In that amount of time, no one would be able to tell.
Looking at the vid. I want to do that shit to anyone who talks on a phone like that in a public restaurant. That is one mark against him right there. I feel sorry for the retarded kid but still, I can't blame the parent.
Yes, the cell phone thing could have upset the apple cart. Who expects a retarded kid to be talking on a cell phone anyway? The ones I know are satisfied with being able to color between the lines and tie their shoes.
From the video I don't see how the father would know the kid is retarded. He walks in, sees some teenager walk over and kick his kid and a second later lays him out. I would of done the same thing.
Too many violent and hotheaded people out there, judging by the results of this thread. Suppose the father had a concealed weapons license. Would he have been justified in shooting the teenager? Something tells me the Wordforge cabal would try to justify it as some type of bizarro world "self-defence."
I can't fault the father for punching the Downs kid. A punch might have been an overreaction, but the guy made a fast, aggressive move towards his child. That's not a situation where you have time to stop and consider things carefully. If I'd been the father, I probably would have just stepped in front of the child, or pushed the guy back and started shouting, but my intention would have been the same as the fathers, to neutralize the threat to my child as quickly as possible.
If a guy on the phone crossed the room to kick one of my kids when they were that size I would have laid the guy out too. A parent doesn't stop to look at foreheads, eyes, lips or whatever else when their kid is being menaced. Instinct kicks in and you just move.
No, but the very same arguments apply to shooting the teenager with respect to "protecting the child". If shooting the teenager is going too far, then who's to say cold cocking him isn't? Lots of people die or become permanently injured from getting socked in the head and/or losing consciousness and hitting their head on the floor/ground. Again, the kid was barely touched, if at all, and if we're using "aggressive movements" as the criteria for an assault in "self-defence," I'm just saying I think you people are a little too eager to resort to violence.
You just know some smart-ass will splice this footage into an NFL awesome tackles/clothelines/bloopers DVD!
You know, I would think that the only excess force here would have been shooting the guy or continuing to kick him when he went down. But then again, many of ya'll have no problem with murdering little babies in their mother's wombs, so I wouldn't expect you to understand defending anything.
OK, to get serious for a minute, and only for a minute, I think the dad's response was wayyyyyyyy out of line. Sorry, but you don't just deck a kid like that. You intervene. Get between them and use your authority as an adult figure to stop it. I've had to do it a number of times. Then you pepper spray him and shoot him.
In hindsight with plenty of time to think about it, the father overreacted. In real time with the father not having time and being afraid for his kid, a punch is not out of line. Unlike using a gun the harm is minimal and the situation can be dealt with afterwards. The Lefties seem to be missing a sense of judgement which explains their irrational fear of guns.
On the contrary, this lefty is saying that the father should have used more/better judgment in this case.
Easy to say in hindsight. When the moment is occurring and you see an adult or bigger person hitting or kicking your kid, you act to protect. The point is the difference between a fist to the mug and a gunshot to the chest.
That presumes that the kid was actually hit or kicked, not merely "aggressively moved towards" or "possibly touched".
Remember the video. The kids is being kicked. The father is behind the child. He sees this from the back, and the kid is probably screaming. Again we can dissect the video at our leisure after, but not in real time. Think if what we're doing as Instant Replay.
I'm torn between my desire to organ harvest the abnormal vs. kicking small children for fun and profit. So like the oriental slut said to Coleman: "Why not both?"
Guy in a power wheelchair intentionally tries to run down my kid and you can bet your ass I'd cold cock him. The father saw a threat, he reacted to eliminate the threat. The End. Shit, he may be ghetto, reactions are swift and extreme for self preservation. Here's hoping the Downs kid learned a lesson.
You guys are presuming intent, based on almost nothing. Now we have people presuming that the kid was "probably screaming". Nonsense. If you cold-cocked me (I'm in a power wheelchair, by the way) because I didn't see your toddler come bounding in and I cut in front of him, possibly brushing him, then you're damn right I would have you arrested for assault and probably sue your ass for good measure. And why has nobody questioned why the father didn't have better control of his "toddler" in a public place? It goes both ways.
My bolding, you missed this I think. Chill man, if my kid is all willy nilly she'd get the boot in the ass.
Lefties? *checks membership card......* And minimal harm? You call getting knocked out minimal harm? Maybe he broke his jaw. Maybe he now has a concussion. Either way it is not minimal harm. And luckily for him he didn't hit his head on anything when he fell to the ground. And for the fool up thread that brought instinct up. Let me tell you something, instinct will get you 5-10 in state prison if you let it run your life. You have to be better then that. You have to control yourself. If you can't then you shouldn't be outdoors. Anywhere. There are a lot of people in jail and prison because they let instinct take over. I can't find any news story so no telling if he got arrested or anything but I'd bet anything the cops were called by someone and after viewing the tape they arrested that dad for battery.
I think we're missing the point here. Who hasn't wanted to kick a screaming, ADHD rug rat across the room? Hmm? Hmmmm????? Be honest.
All I'm sayin' is that downs kids aren't known for getting all kickey for no reason. It's more than possible that the little shit deserved it. I'm just sayin'.
