That's what I thought, too. But apparently it's been too long since the event and there's so much inaccuracy in the estimation that it's all but useless. Still, I imaging you could draw a circle on the map center on the plane's last known position and indicating its maximum range and another circle centered on Reunion Island and indicating the maximum possible drift of the part, and then search the overlapping area. Of course, that could be an unmanageably large area... Yes, at least there's some closure in knowing that the plane actually went down somewhere in the ocean.
Man, CNN is all over this again like a fly on shit. Did one of their producer's family members disappear with MH370 or something? Holy shit.
Yep......a decoy jet. Oldest trick in the book! It's the real reason David could kill Goliath with a stone to the noggin'.
I was going to suggest we bring Charles Widmore in for questioning. He faked an entire aircraft, this would be nothing for him.
My bet: this piece *is* from MH370. If it's from a 777, it pretty much has to be, unless someone is perpetrating a hoax. And if it's a hoax, to what end?
I don't see why this is in any way suspicious. The piece probably had a bit of air left in it, and was attached to a larger portion of the wing, until corrosion freed it and it floated to the surface.
This kind of confusion--which is common, especially when multiple agencies are involved, and will all be sorted out in due course--is where conspiracy theories arise. Someone a few days from now will declare "Yes, there is no doubt. This component is from Malaysian Airlines 370." And ten years from now, someone will have some wild conspiracy theory about MH370 and one cornerstone of it will be "You know, when they first found that part, the serial numbers didn't match."
With big implications, however. Boeing is insanely meticulous in their paperwork, they can document not only who made a part for a particular plane, but the machine, the time of day, the tools used, and the source of the materials (with the same level of detail). If Malaysian Airlines wants to claim it was a problem with the design of the plane, they're going to have a tough case.
A prominent theory I saw and happen to agree with was a problem with the wiring in the cockpit and an accompanying fire. This is a problem that has occurred on previous Boeing aircraft, so frankly it wouldn't be a stretch here. I suppose it could be argued to be a faulty design, but given the safety record of the 777, it's more likely to have simply been a defective component.
Seems likely, since they found that he'd plotted a strange course on his home flight simulator, which matches up with things like the last known position of the plane and where some of the debris has been found.
Here's an article talking about the simulated course. Could be noise, but it's significant. source Malaysian officials have finally admitted that the MH370 pilot plotted a path over the Indian Ocean, the alleged crash site, on a home flight simulator. Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah, the pilot of the missing aircraft, plotted the flight path into the Indian Ocean but it was just one of the thousands of routes on his home simulator, Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai said.
I think it's noise. Sure he had a plot over the Indian Ocean but it was one of thousands on his simulator. What if he had a plot that takes him out over the Pacific?
When I had MS Flight Sim running (sometime in the 90's) my favorite thing was to crash into the John Hancock building. So yeah, a random flight on a sim to the indian ocean may not be significant. This probably will come up in my flight worthiness review.... sigh
Didn't some suicidal German pilot crash into the alps last year? Damn that is some mega-epic of biblical proportions asshole behavior right there.
I will never forget, shortly after 9/11, a friend of mine insisted that we go to Dave & Busters for dinner because he wanted to show me something. What he wanted to show me was a flight simulator they had in the arcade in which you could practice flying a commercial jet over a major American city. Hysterically, when we walked by it, there was a guy of Middle Eastern extraction playing it. When I mentioned this to another friend of mine, he freaked the fuck out and started asking if anyone had called the cops on that guy.
I remember when CNN was the malaysian flight channel for about 6 months. Their recent season of lets be crazier than newsmax is not an improvement.
