Now I understand why teh Baba goes goo-goo for BioWare. This has to be the most entertaining space opera since Star Trek. This western RPG plays more like an action game than an RPG... and the choices you make seems to effect the game experience in interesting ways that will make no 2 playthroughs exactly the same. I imagine there are some choies you could make that would change the game entirely. You are Captain Shepard the resurrected Captain of the SpaceShip Normandy and you have been put ti the task of investigating the recent dissappearence of several human colonies on the outer reaches of the galaxy. You have to assemble a team, gain thier loyalty and go off and fight your nemesis once you've figured out all the pieces of the puzzle before you. I haven't finished the game yet, but I find myself really enjoying it and when I'm playing it and thinking of new strategies when I'm not. If you haven't yet, check it out. It's available on the PC, PS3 and 360 platforms. and PS... althoigh this is new to the PS3, it's been out for over a year now.. and Mass Effect 3 will be out later this year. I'm excited about it already. There is a strong possibility that both Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 could end up gettig awards at the same time.
Why yes... Yes, it does. Hot, blue lesbians!!! I've been of the opinion that video games don't do "sexy" well at all and recent attempts have been downright embarrassing... But Mass Effect 2 is certainly challenging my preconceptions. Miranda is smoking hot. Samara actually reminds me of a person I know even though she's blue. This a very well thought out, painstaking attention paid to details space opera. If you like Star Trek, there's a strong chance you'll at least enjoy Mass Effect 2. Heck, I'd like to see a TV series some day!
Alphaman even though wing commander 3 is a space opera that is a space sim you should check it out for download off of playstation network.
You playing a female shep jennifer hale is a good voice actress Alphaman. What do you think of the score?
I just finished the Lair of the Shadow Broker and up until then, I hadn't noticed the score... but it was pretty awesome!!
No, but I'm considering dLing the Dragon Age II Demo tonight. I wasn't really that impressed with the ME2 Demo earlier, but ME2 is really proving to be a great game.
I'm going to start this in a few days. Had the game for a while but didn't want to play it until I completed ME1 again. Can't wait!
I think the Mass Effect series is way beyond what they achieved in Dragon Age. Not sure I'd have the same expectation for that one Alpha.
I played the first DA and got bored a few hours in, mostly because the combat system just wasn't as exciting as ME2. It does look like they may have added some of what they learned from ME2 into DAII, so I will at least keep my ear out for it.
After 50 hours of gameplay, I finally finished my first runthrough of Mass Effect 2. I had a few casualties along the way. I have to play this game again. This time with different choices. There is a trophy for completing the final mission with no casualties and I'm determined to figure out how to get it. This will be the next big thing for sci-fi fans. If it's given a chance on television, I know this will be a huge hit.
On my first run I lost 1 person, on my second run through I got everyone through the final mission ok. Correct choices + loyalty is the way to go Im not sure how much high paragon and renegade scores help, maybe not at all.
Hate the renegade and paragon system. T his should be like dragon age and they should get rid of that completely.
SPOILER ALERT!!! How did you deal with the Loyalty of Legion? I didn't even encounter him until my entire crew was abducted by the Collectors. I went to do his loyalty mission and then straight through the Omega 4 relay. By that time, half my crew was dead. Both Thane and Samarra bit the dust on my first playthrough. I never really trusted Jack, but I still powered her up and used her ability in the last mission.
I dont think non loyalty definitely means a death. IIRC (it was some time ago) I didnt have Legion at all first time round, and he wasnt loyal second time
This game is sensational, the best PC game I've played for a very long time! I thought the original Mass Effect and Dragon Age were good but the sequel blows them both out of the water. Just around half way through so far, recently got me a Geth squad member!
ME and DAO are two entirely different games. Unfortunately, thanks to the success of ME2 and EA wanting to cash in on DAO's success, DA2 was an ME2 clone in many ways that was rushed to release in 18 months, and the player reviews are not kind.
The one thing I'll say about DAO is that it lasts longer than ME2! I have finished ME2 after just under 35 hours gameplay. I'm sure DAO lasted a little longer. But ME2 was definitely short and very sweet. Enjoyed the entire run and will be downloading the DLCs soon and having another run through. Aside from the relative quick completion, the only other downer was the lack of weapons. I think each weapon has at most 3 different types which was a bit disappointing compared to the countless choices you get in the original. Besides that, I had a great time. Another great title from Bioware and now looking forward to ME3.
ME2 add-ons give quite a lot of extra gameplay, especially the 2 new characters (one of which gets you an excellent gun) and the mission packs 'Overlord' and 'Project Firewalker'. Well worth getting
I definitely think so, more in terms of gameplay than storyline though. ME2 is superior in every other way, except maybe the range of weapons and armours you get in ME1. There's lots of Mako missions too which you don't get in ME2 without downloading the DLC, but to be honest most of those missions are a bit tedious which is why I suspect the Mako was scrapped in ME2. And there's only one DLC mission for ME1. But worth trying if you've played ME2 to death, if only to see the storyline unfold, which I think is a little more interesting than ME2's.
IIRC my very first playthrough of DAO lasted about 85 hours. I can do a complete runthrough in about 35 now, but I know the game backwards and forwards and I run an advanced tactics mod with auto-targetting that massively reduces the amount I have to pause or directly control different characters in a fight. The tactics mods let you assign tactics so detailed that you can literally watch a fight run like a movie sequence without having to interfere except when you see something you want to tweak on the fly. I am permanently inside the darkspawn's OODA loop these days.
Is there going to be a mega-edition release of ME2 that includes all the DLC? I hear so much about this game I think I may have to give it a go eventually, even though I quit ME1 pretty early in. Watched my son playing Fallout 3 the other day- another game I never finished due to that monkey on my back called Dragon Age. I may have to give that one another spin too.
I would have thought so. IIRC there was such an edition for DAO so I would be surprised if ME2 doesn't get the same treatment.
They released an all inclusive version on the PS3 in January, but I know you guys want a PC version. The last bit of DLC is called "The Arrival" and it's due out on 3/29. Perhaps afterthat, you'll see an all inclusive version sometime down the road.
