So now that Rep is twice as useful (you can now use it to express simple disagreement without getting other people's panties in a wad), I find I am running out of it twice as fast.

Considering there is now no way to conduct a Rep War, how about unlimited rep?

    No.

Reduce it to five per day.

We wouldn't want the "race to the top" to get out of control.

I posed that question in one of the rep change threads but I think it got buried.

Why not make rep unlimited now? I mean, if it's just supposed to be an agree/disagree thing...

Which further begs the question, why have points at all any more?

IIRC, you have to have a point value for the "Agrees/Disagrees" thing to work.

Why do you want unlimited rep? How many reps per day do you need to hand out? I never use all mine . . .

Why? B/c there are a lot of posts that I agree and disagree with.

As for how many, if unlimited can't be done, lets take 100/day out for a spin and see how it works out.

Sure, why not. Might as well throw in the ability to rep yourself. And how about a weekly lotto for a rep jackpot? Each winner receives one billion rep points!*

    :D

Seriously though, despite the change it seems rep is still quite important.

*After taxes that's about four-hundred million rep.

The more I think about it the more it becomes clear, unlimited rep plus the ability to rep yourself would end the rep wars.

    Though it might encourage spam.

It is clear the Anc does not believe this change is permanent that he is merely trying to gird his loins for future rep wars.

Maybe we should take a break from the rep system altogether. A month, maybe two without rep might be a good thing.

This. Just do away with "rep" with entirely. It's pointless anyway, now that it's toothless. If we're going to be baby Trekbbs we might as well do it right. :smoking:

I liked the first revamp of Rep, that Cass did circa 2006. Throw in the Rep Bomb and you've got it perfect. :techman:

So any movement on this? I am once again out of Rep, and there are still posts I would like to express agreement/disagreement with.

Now that Rep War isn't possible, is there any good reason to restrict the number of reps one can give?

    This!

Rep helped mark posts and remind me of them. It rewarded good posts and good posters and served to smack a few asshats. It was a unique feature of the board that most of us liked.

Now it's neutered, pussified, and pointless.

We might as well invite warriorsfan and Squiggy and the gang on over. They feel at home on a pussy board anyway.

Oh do shut up. You guys that clamored in favor for the rep change are just as annoying if not moreso than those that want it reverted.

No. Really, the pissing and moaning about wanting rep changed back is absurd. Quite frankly, if it will shut you the fuck up, I say turn Rep back on. This time, though, limit it to, say, 10 negreps and 20 posreps per day.

Either way, whatever happens, quit whining like spoiled children, and quit dragging up old fucking threads, and for the gods' sake, shut the fuck up about the goddamned pips on your profile. Some of you guys belittle TrekBBS, but at least we don't motherfucking whine about GODDAMN PIPS ON OUR PROFILES!

John, John -- It just isn't like you to be so coy. Why don't you tell us plainly what you think about those who are asking for changes to rep?

BTW, if it was possible, I could get along very well with the "10 negs and 20 pos" limit you suggest. But I doubt if it can be done.

See, that's an Enterpriser rule right there. Limiting the type of rep to be given because some here want to be "bad" with it? That goes against everything this board stands for.

As far as Rep goes, in a dream world I'd have one of the following:

1)A comment system with no points that shows "Agree/Disagree"
2)A points-based system with a neutral option if one is really intent on just commenting
3)Those in the red with the ability to give rep points

Option 1 isn't possible, and I dunno is numbers 2 or 3 are. But even then, they'll still be a ton of bitching because as much as some would like to believe, you can't moderate maturity. And in the end, the only person you can control is you.
