And these are the posters that TPTB kowtowed down to and changed a rep system that the majority of the posters were satisfied with and wanted left alone.

 

No, it's about righting a wrong.

 

The owner of a website you use for free making a minor change to one minor side feature is not a "wrong."

 

If that were truly the issue, then why did you and a few other repwhiners spend years bitching about it until it got changed when the majority wanted it left alone?

 

I have explained this in various threads half a dozen times already in the last month.

1. Agrees/disagrees requires different point values. Those values were previously -1 and 1, currently 0 and 1.
2. Users in the red can only give 0-valued rep. So it shows up as disagrees.
3. Previously, they were still giving 0-valued rep, but 0 was always displayed as "agrees", regardless of which radio button was selected.
4. A few weeks back I reinstated the (relatively simple) hack to use "comments" instead after the one years ago was lost in a board upgrade.

Now for new bits:
1. The first part didn't go off as planned because I had to do a PHP hack for it. I would have liked to have updated the board software first, but I have had 0 time lately (I haven't even been lurking for the past week and a half), so I went ahead and did it. This will probably come back to bite us in the ass later when I do have time.
2. The reset rep has to be done at the DB level, but I haven't had time to back up the DB, which your ever-caring tech admin thought might be a good idea in case he accidentally nukes the board (yes, I am talking in the 3rd person, not referring to Nick).
3. I have now backed up the database.
4. I'm not resetting rep tonight. Despite a cherry coke 6 hours ago after a week+ of no caffeine, I'm not risking the DB at 4:27 AM.

 

You and a few others keep repeating this like you know what's going on and you don't.

It had nothing to do whatsoever with anyone asking for rep to be changed.

I brought it up and the staff batted it around for awhile. If you think I am some sort of pussy rep "whiner", you are mistaken. Trying new things keeps a board fresh and this tired old rep war garbage had practically taken over the board. If people are not spending all their time here negging people, then they are talking about negging people and others are spending their time whining about it. Becoming Repforge 24/7 is not an interesting board that is going to bring in anyone new. New people often disappear over it and fools pat their backs that they are so awesome keeping people away.

Sokar's antics aside, there is already a little less naval gazing at little squares. Now if only everyone would stop bitching about it for a little while so we can truly see the effect...or lack of one, if that's the case, of this on the board it would be helpful. You still have plenty of other ways to troll and you still can say almost anything that you want.

 

I'm sorry that the change to the rep system is making you all whiney and forgetful.

Yes, I carry a lot of influence over the administration. As Lanz and Tamar can confirm I have hounded them endlessly about changing the rep system and they finally gave into my demands.

Oh please. "Repforge"? Ever once in a while a rep war would happen, but you make it sound like it was happening all the time. Both you and I know that this was not the case. So you going on about it this way just makes it look that much more like you gave in to a few repwhiners and are trying to spin it as "trying something new". Sorry, but you can't do that and whine about the rep-warring at the same time, because doing so shows you real motives for what they are.

 

If anything it seems the change has caused a rise in rep discussions.

That's naive. You can't remove board functions and expect that this crowd is going to quietly slink away with their tail between their legs.
