John Wayne Bobbitt never explicitly told his wife not to chop his dick off, so there was clearly some form of implied consent there :soma:

Padilla got many courts to hear several aspects of his case. He was ultimately convicted.

The most you can claim is some arguable government violation of due process in a highly exceptional case. But that happens all the time--that's why we have courts to sort these things out.

And you haven't shown that you've lost any right at all. Because you haven't.

Aside from whether I would or wouldn't vote for Obama....

It's fairly pathetic to watch the Clinton Attack Machine scrape the bottom of the barrel desperately trying to come up with something, anything to claw their way back into this race.

Obama "plagerizes" someone else's speech?

Michelle Obama is a pinko commie who hates America? :sroll:

You'd have thought this was a story lifted straight out of The American President, where a picture of Annette Benning is discovered where she's at a protest where an American flag is being burned.

So the best they can do is generate a couple of news cycles with this trumped up crap?

Meanwhille, Bill is running around wagging his finger in people's faces and trying to bully hecklers, looking more and more like his backwood Arkansas hillbilly doofus brother Roger.

If somebody speaking on your behalf--with your endorsement--says something controversial and you don't disavow it then what's reasonable to conclude from that? Hmmm?

    Depends.

Is it a Stuttering John being sent by Howard Stern sort of situation?

Cuz I could see myself on either side of that equation.

After reading that response I have to admit. I am finally proud of this country. :)

Yes. Making sense is something I expect from a presidential candidate. And that extends to people who he has speak on his behalf.

Or, as the people on CNBC so eloquently put it, that the possibility that people want change in this country is what is making her proud.

Not necessarily, if I had a wife who was a vegetarian, and she came out in support of vegetarianism, doesn't mean I share the belief.

I have no issue with the pride she feels now. The issue I have is that she's said she's NEVER felt proud of the country until now.
Entirely different case. In the hypothetical, your wife is not speaking on your behalf (i.e., there's no expectation that her viewpoint and yours are the same).

Imagine if Bill Clinton started making campaign promises on behalf of Hillary that she didn't endorse; wouldn't it be incumbant on Hillary to speak up and say that she does not support those positions? Or, some months later after she's won the election, would it be okay for her to say "Well, Bill really doesn't speak for me?"

How is her statement irresponsible? If true, do we now punish people because they don't bend and flex for the camera or soundbyte? I'd rather her tell the truth than make up faux patriotic statements just to get a more popular appeal.

As God is my witness, if she shows up at her next rally with a pimp-slap-shaped welt on her face and publicly apologizes for her statement, I will vote for Barack Obama.

And her fiance is still dead.

And the same crew that will entertain us for the next 10 months parsing every word Michelle Obama says are the same ones who kept saying "It's NOTHING!! It was an ACCIDENT!"

I understand why. They can't find anything substantive to whine about, so they'll just bore us to death with this shit.

But why do you seem to have a hard-on over it? You've mentioned it at least twice in this thread.

    It was an accident.

Is that why you're bringing up Mrs. Bush's car crash?

Wouldn't you call holding blameless a woman who accidentally KILLS somebody (and by extension her husband) but blaming a woman who misspeaks about her level of pride as an adult in America (and then holds her husband accountable for that gaffe) a double standard?

Now there might be a good reason for holding that double standard (A 17-year-old shouldn't be looked at the same way as a 40-something, for instance).

Or it could just be that Laura's a Republican and Michelle's a Democrat.

Because I think she has presented herself as someone who didn't appreciate her life until her husband reached a certain point politically. That to me indicates someone who doesn't appreciate the opportunity and success that both she and her husband have achieved. I think its great that she is proud now. I think it is pathetic that she couldn't appreciate all that she and her husband had accomplished prior. It strikes me as superficial.
