So true. I also like it when people say, "you just like so-and-so because it has the franchise label slapped on it. You'll lap up anything they release under that label."

Funny thing is, I can prove that's total bullshit based on my own experience.

I grew up with the original Star Wars and it had a profound impact on my childhood. But I fucking hated the prequel trilogy. They were abortions all around. I probably haven't watched one of the prequel films in over fifteen years, but I've seen the original trilogy many times since then. I also happen to like a lot of the new stuff Disney is putting out, although it's not perfect. Apparently, me liking the new films means I'll lap anything up. But how does that explain my distaste for the prequels?

Same thing for Star Trek. Grew up on TOS, loved TNG, loved DS9 but absolutely hated Voyager and Enterprise. Didn't like Discovery at first but it grew on me. I also like Picard, despite its flaws.

It's best just to avoid folks who want to force their opinions on you.
