That large frame Ruger P89DC 9mm that I've had for 14 years is sweet. I like the way it shoots and the laser site helps balance it. It's shooting characteristics would make it my choice in a self defense situation, but the size is hard to carry and conceal. I've been carrying it in a shoulder holster under a vest. I wear vests a lot anyway, even before I got my carry permit.

I'd been wanting something smaller, but I kinda wanted to stick with 9mm. I like the modern 9mm cartridge and I like sticking with a standard size and not having to stock a dozen different calibers of ammo.

So I saved my nickles and dimes and bought myself a Sig Sauer P-250 9mm and a Blackhawk inside the pants holster. It has a picatinney rail under the barrel if I ever want to add a tactical light. Haven't had time to fire it yet.

Let the flaming from those who hate Sig Sauer begin!

I've read some pretty good reviews on the P-250 and talked to a couple of owners who were satisfied.

It came with factory night sights and it's modular design means you can easily switch 9mm, .40sw, .357sig, and .45acp.

I like Sigs. I can't justify the price, but I like them.

The gunshop cut me a deal. I got the pistol and holster for $517 even. Not bad.

That included the backgroud check, transfer fee, ATF rape fee, etc.

    This.

I've lusted for a 220 for a long time, but can't justify spending that much on another .45. :garamet:

    Not bad at all.

I just took a pic of my new acquisition, but: 1) I don't want to derail this thread and 2) I'm sort've reticent to document what I've got in a public forum.

Magpul mags for the AR-15. Gonna buy some.

I'm a big fan of Sig, but I've only owned P226's and P220's. I've loved each and every one I've had. My stainless P220 is second only to my Les Baer.

Just check on line. You may be able to find them cheaper. Depending on how many you buy even with the shipping charges it may be cheaper.

Yeah the shop is selling them for $18. I've seen them online for $12-$17.

I almost forgot to give the after action report.

It's sweet. Lighter and shorter than my old Ruger, so that's taking some getting used to. The trigger pull is a little long too, which takes some getting used to as well.

Very pleased. I like it. :techman:

I've heard some shit about Rugers over the years, but I can honestly say that I have had zero problems or complaints with that ol' P-89DC. I also have a silver P-93 and the same goes for it. My only issue with P-89DC is that the large frame is not very practical for concealed carry.

The biggest thing for me on those Ruger 9mms is that they are butt-ugly. I almost bought one because the price was right, but it was just so damned ugly, IMO.

Indeed, they are as ugly as sin. Also, I've never fired a ruger semi-auto that didn't feel looser than a 3 month dead whore.

I hope you sent him to his room without supper for that.

For this transgression, did you do the right thing and turn around and tell your mom enough innuendo to make her think that maybe he IS running around on her?

Your pics expired, but I just bought I think it's little brother, the 226, my first handgun.

    Here's a couple of pics

Tried a few pistols at a local range (my first handgun shooting) on Friday -popped my cherry - and preferred it over the glock 19, springfield xd and beretta 92. Today went and bought my gun. Will go shooting with it on Monday.

Have my 15 year-old nephew in town for a couple of weeks, the trigger that inspired me to finally cross the rubicon. Been here in Texas since May 2011 so it's long overdue, thought I've been dove hunting (and clay pigeons, etc.) a couple of times the past 18 mos (my first times with guns, I was 47 I think, last year, it was so long ago).

    Here's the pic.

Speaking of gun purchases, my son just fell in love with the M-4 in basic training and wants to buy a semi-auto version. Can you blame him?

He also shot the actual M-16 during his training and asked me "how can you stand those things? They're too long and bulky."

^ I'm thrilled. Fuckin awesome, really.

Plus, yes, I can now appreciate my constitutional rights more directly, rather than simply vicariously. And every single NY family member that will eventually come visit me are all gonna get off on it, to a greater or lesser degree. My nephew Matt who I mentioned is really enjoying his stay so far here in San Antonio, and not just 'cause of the visits to shooting range.

Forgot to mention my thanks to shootER for the tip in selecting the Bullet Hole shooting range, local to us, and the place with enough different handgun rentals to get a decent feel before selecting my first pistol. And to all you guys for posts in campforge (Elwood, frontline, you three who commented with rep, and all you other guys and ms.flow), many of which I read prior to my first encounters. It's why I went with the 9mm, etc. etc.

And for some reason I like that little anchor indicating SEALS appeal (specwise its the MK25 indicator, apparently), as a former sailorman I get a kick out of it, nautical visualization and all.
