I hated the novel when I read it years ago. I assumed Garamet knew that from my comments here over the years. I could've mentioned that the title was kind of cool but that wasn't enough to hang another star in the review on.

I'm mindful of the Aesop fable about the fox and the grapes. For one thing, the book was published over 30 years ago. For another, it was on the Times list for two weeks, as well as several other lists, and sold over 150,000 copies.

Then request a - free - copy of Music of the Spheres and compare it with Probe. Then you can review all of my Trek novels and work your way through the other 70+% of my non-Trek work.
