In the same way that the president has a constitutional authority to draw a salary, but if he went to the mint and took a bunch of gold coins and declared it his salary, it's still theft.

Under certain circumstances, yes. Certainly, I have defended statements you've made, however, if you'll notice, my support of you hasn't been near constant, as yours has with Trump. You've made comments like, "Why is everyone so upset about Trump? Just wait and vote him out in 2020." and "Really, folks, we shouldn't impeach him, we should just let him stay in office because it'll be totes better than if we impeach him, no matter how bad he might be." That's hardly the kind of thing someone who genuinely loathes another person would say.

It is somewhat understandable, because what with all the investigations and all, but at the same time, you'd think that he'd have had some top-flight lawyers already on retainer, simply because he's a high-profile political figure.

I read something funny in a review of the most recent season of House of Cards.

"The Trump administration is House of Cards as performed by the cast of Veep."

The best description I saw was:
You know how in the '50s horror/sci-fi movies always had a couple of teenagers or a scientist that early on figured out what was happening, but nobody believed them until a whole lotta people died? Yeah, that's what living in Trump's America is like.

I fully and enthusiastically stand by this Tuckerfan. No election victory in the U.S. is permanent. No election loss is fatal. There's always "wait til next year" (or two years from now as the case may be).

We Republicans/conservatives had to endure 8 years of President Obama. It's not going to kill the Democrats/liberals to endure 4 years of President Trump.

    And you know that.

    Agree to disagree.

But modern America made it for decades without the ACA.

It will make it 4 or 8 years or even longer.

Tuckerfan, I would assume you and others here are old enough to remember how in 1980 many Democrats/liberals were so certain that if Ronald Reagan was elected president that he was going to start a nuclear war.

That is not the point. Depending upon how you define "modern," America has survived without any number of things, but that doesn't make it ideal, or even right.

All of us here know that you don't think that there was anything which Reagan could have done about AIDS, but surely you will agree that folks who were in favor of protesting to try and get more government funding for research into the disease had the right to do so, yes? Do you object to the idea that folks who think that the US needs to join the rest of the developed world and adopt government provided healthcare?

After all, the US could have survived without the Apollo program, but I'm sure that you'll agree we're better off for having done it than not. The same is true of the US adopting single payer healthcare, as well as any number of other issues. I mean, if every woman had easy and cheap (if not free) access to birth control, the number of abortions in the US would go down. Is this not a good thing?

    Indeed.

One really has to wonder why some here are so heavily invested in seeing a sitting president humiliated and, eventually, impeached. It's as if they have some kind of vested interest in seeing the U.S. government destabilized.

Yeah...you wonder this, and then you remember there really is such a thing as espionage, there really are spies and secret agents working for foreign powers, including Russia.

So when people like Quest, 14th Douchebag, Ancalagon, et al engage in desperate attempts to convince others that the sitting president's election was illegitimate, that his administration is illegitimate because he was elected only because of interference by foreign powers, that the President and those in his administration are criminals......

Well, it makes you wonder about the people pushing this narrative, their agenda, who they work for, who's payroll they're on.

Destabilizing the government, spreading chaos by undermining the public's confidence in the legitimately elected administration, weakening the country....

According to the Constitution, the President is Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.

That doesn't make it lawful for him to order a soldier to murder his wife so he can marry his mistress.

So much good stuff. VP pence has lawyered up selecting... Wait for it... Comey's best friend and Godfather to Comey's children. Four members or former members of the Trump admin are being investigated for fina cial crimes supposedly linked to shady money coming from Russia right after Trump won. Oh, and Trump is reportedly obsessed and can think of nothing else other than how he is being investigated spending all day every day watching the news about it and tweeting. Which is more or less what he has been doing since he took office. He just has been extremely lazy and unengaged with the actual business of running government.

That is the glorious part. Trump is too ignorant to know where the line is but he is also too arrogant to listen to any experts because that is the type of ignorant yet arrogant person he is.

He is his own worst enemy.

    http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/06/16/vice-president-mike-pence-profile-feature-215257

An interesting article on VP Pence. He seems to be the only quiet seasoned professional there who gets things done. He smooths over the feathers Trump is constantly ruffling for no good reason, he coordinates extensively with the party elites especially in Congress, Trump is uninterested in any details or day to day policy stuff so Pence does it all, far more than any VP since WW2. Meanwhile Trump seems to do little more than golf, tweet, and obsessively watch news about himself for up to eight hours a day.

Pence knows Trump is always angery at the thought of anyone over shadowing him so in public Pence always acts deferentually (proba ly out of fear Trump will get rid of him of Pence gets any of the lime light) but he remains the silent workhorse and one of the few professionals operating the government in a White House know for Chaos, dysfunction, and incompetence.

Pence remains the same religious extremist he has always been but he at least is a functional person unlike Trump.
