Counting down the seconds before the usual suspects chime in to tell us that no one really wants to confiscate our guns.

BTW (responding to a different poster) responsible gun owners already follow safety rules, which are nothing but common senserules even a child can learn. Irresponsible gun owners can be preached to forever but they will still be unsafe. That's why focusing on "safety" is really tits on a pipewrench useless.

They know that they have to work long term to achieve that goal. A step here and a step there. They know that if they were to try and go for a ban they'd get the boot so they are planning on slowly taking things so that over 20-25 years you end up with a ban or a "ban" where you can own a gun but the process is so convoluted and expensive that most just don't bother.

I think this is aimed at me. When I preach safety regulations, the idea is that we don't do enough about ignorant gun owners. People here at Wordforge mostly seem to be on top of this stuff, but there are people like Nancy Lanza who don't know shit and therefore make mistakes which lead to tragedy. I agree with what some have said regarding gun laws not stopping an intentional criminal. And I also don't want to make it impossible for an honest citizen to exercise his rights. But somebody should have told Nancy Lanza to keep her guns locked away from her son. A simple course designed to educate, inform, and if necessary frighten somebody in to understanding just what they are buying will reduce accidental death.

Nancy Lanza may HAVE had her guns lacked safely away, I don't think it's been revealed one way or another. But she was stupid enough to leave her crazy-ass kid alone for a weekend with plenty of time to figure out how to get to them.

The difference :

Most of the Muslim are actually horrified and actively trying to help stop further attacks. Indeed, the vast majority of fundamentalist Muslim attacks are stopped by other Muslims turning them in.

If gun owners were as proactive about making sure the few nuts making them look bad were dealt with as often as possible BEFORE they went on their rampage, this would be a moot point.

Instead they obstruct people trying to make the country a better place at every possible turn.

Look at the cheers that go up here when things like making sure there are background checks done on everyone who buys a gun are stopped.

Because being able to take the bad actors out of the system SURE as fuck would reduce the amount of gun violence.
