How come he was killed and not captured? I would have seem him captured and put in trial in a state that has the death penalty. The public humiliation would have made him less of a martyr to his followed.
1) The Pakistani gov't had no prior knowledge of this operation, so talking him out wasn't an option. 2) He was given an opportunity to surrender peacably. He didn't.
Well good job for Obama for vindicating George Bush policies which he kept in place despite telling his Liberal pals he would change them...had he keep him promise this wouldn't had happen. Oh it's fun watching the Nobel Peace winner Obama trying keep his office by trying to kill as many foreign leaders he can he tried to get Gaddafi today and now Bin Laden. By the way what the heck happen to all those anti-war protesters CODE PINK and so on what change in our wars that made them stop protesting?....Could it be it was never about the wars or loss of life but what party the President at the time was?...and now that the current President is a Dem and even though the wars are still going on and in fact expanded to include Libya they are not interested in protesting anymore?
Libya is a different matter entirely since the legal basis and the purpose of the assault is entirely different from Iraq and Afghanistan. Plus Obama was going to avoid it but had to be talked into it by us and the frogs. As for the rest, they'll just hide behind the stock response of "Obama didn't start the wars so he had no choice but to continue then".
It's being reported that they're going to do with him what they did with Megatron... Bury him at sea.
So what are you saying? Megatron posts on here with one arm while being at the bottom of the ocean? No, sorry. Don't buy that.
Well, this is the last thing I expected to see this morning. It's nice to switch on the news and actually see some news for once.
Sure, it's great that Osama's dead....but in the mean time while we're partying, we need to remember we just killed AL QUADA'S FUCKING FIGURE HEAD.
You're in SF and didn't tell anyone? If you're still here tomorrow or Tuesday, PM me and let's meet up for drinks. Paladin, you in?
By the way - I'm a gonna go ahead and call bullshit on the "burial at sea" that's staged for the benefit of the "good Muslims" - bet your ass he's in cold storage somewhere under tight security.
As someone on facebook quite rightly said..."Burying Bin Laden at sea will turn the world's oceans Al Qaeda by homeopathic laws"
Good news that's been a long time coming, beyond that there isn't much to discuss. Most everyone believed Bin Laden deserved to be captured or killed for his role in the 9/11 attacks. Sure some politicians will capitalize on his demise, but beyond that it's simply good news.
Yep. Nobody trusts Pakistan as far as they can throw em'. Weird how nobody noticed a huge fucking fortified compound built in their mud brick shacks neighborhood. Hell, Osama probably answered the door when they brought their new neighbor a fruit basket!
MSNBC just stated that the original info on the courier came from a guy in 2004 using 'enhanced interrogation techniques.' They got the guys name in 2007 from the Intel community. And finally tracked him down now.
More - the original lead came from Gitmo, and the courier was pointed out as a protege of Khalid Sheikh Mohmammed who's identity was secret and was used to pass information between the highest level AQ leaders. It took 4 years from that information to find out his name. From the sound of it, the mansion was the courier's, not OBL. And the CIA has been watching it since Sept. 2010 waiting for a chance to strike. No way of confirming this story yet, btw. Might be a long time before we know for sure, but it certainly sounds credible.
Here's a satellite view of the compound in relation to the Pakistani Military Academy. It's also apparently across the street from a police station.
What, no garamet yet to pour cold water on the thread? I see the Taliban are threatening revenge - like we all noticed them easing up on the beheadings and bombings in the interim.
SHIT! thats just round the corner from COMSATS university. Our Uni has a degree linkup with them, I helped set up and run a week of activities for about 15 of their academics. Its a mad small world sometimes.
