So the standings are pretty much:

    American League
East: Red Sox (unless they blow it and the Yankees take it)
    Central: Cleveland
    West: Angels
Wild Card: Yankees (unless they take the AL East and then this is Boston)

    National League:
    East: Philly or the Mets
    Central: Cubs or Milwaulkee
West: Arizona, San Diego or Colorado
Wild Card: Loser of the NL East versus the loser of the NL West

Fuck, I hate the fact that the Yankees are in the playoffs. I really hate the Yankees.

I think the Mets are pretty much doomed. On my Mets' site, it's more like a suicide prevention hotline than a baseball forum. If it weren't so painful to watch, it would be interesting to see history in the making: the biggest collapse in Major League history.

Don't worry. It'll still be eclipsed by the Yankees choke in '04.

..and the Phillies choke of '64.

The Diamondbacks and the Cubs are in the playoffs. Cubs won the division and D-Backs clinched at least the wild card. The D-Backs magic number for the NL West is 2 with 2 days left in the season. The Phillies did a great job rushing past the Mets and are 1 game up in the East with 2 to play. Great races! :)

I dunno. No team ever blew a 7 game lead with 17 to play. Ever. So, it worse than the Sox (who went on to win the World Series) and the Phillies, who seem to be seeking revenge.

I can tell you this: both Mets fans and the team appear to have given up. It's not pretty — and the offseason will be very, very ugly.

    Isn't that something?

With the playoff race going down to the last game of the season for both the Phillies and Mets, Tom Glavine, future Hall of Famer, chokes and blows up for SEVEN RUNS in only 1/3 inning of work.

    That's gotta sting.

NL Wildcard isn't even set yet either.

When was the last year that a division lead and the wildcard were both decided on the very last day of the regular season???

7 runs in .1 innings! WTF... Well unless the philies choke (they're up 3-1 in the 6th) the mets can see us next year. Which would let SD clinch for the wild card even if the lose I think.

Oh wait, I forgot about the surging Rockies - if SD loses and CO wins...tie.

    This may happen!

Brewers lead Padres 6-4 and D'Backs and Rockies are tied at 0-0.

There you have it... Diamondbacks fall to Rockies 4-3. Brewers skunked the Padres 11-6.

One game playoff tomorrow to see which of the two, San Diego or Colorado, are going to the playoffs!

Sting doesn't begin to describe it. Mets fans are in mourning (we switched our logo banner from orange to black at the Mets' site I own) and angry. It's going to be a messy winter in Flushing.

They came back right away in the bottom of the 13th with a two doubles, a triple, an intentional walk to Todd Helton, and a sac fly for the win.

All of these were consecutive. The only out that Hoffman recorded was the sac fly that won the game.

The Rockies looked better than I thought that they would today, with a rookie, old man Moyer and suck ass Kyle Lohse throwing the next three games for the Phils they might have a real chance at pulling an upset.

It was fun watching the Tribe stomp the Evil Empire. A crushing of the Yankees right on the heels of an epic Mets choke would be just delicious.

The more I watch the NL games the more I'm convinced that those four teams are just playing for the right to get a quick ass whooping from the Red Sox/Indians. Talentwise the top teams from the two leagues aren't even close this year.

The American League is "Little League" compared to the National League West.

An 8-4 Diamondbacks win gives them a 2-0 series lead over the Chicago Cubs.

In a few minutes, the BoSox will put the Angels to bed. Three of the four series will be sweeps and that just leaves Cleveland with two games over the Yankees.

Has there ever been all four divison series that all ended in sweeps?

I don't think that has happened. The TV network people are probably fretting about losing LA, Chicago, Philadelphia and possibly New York (the four biggest media markets in this year's playoffs).

Can you imagine the Rockies v. Cleveland? No one will watch that.
