Not really. All of us have unpopular views with someone here. It wasn't their views; it was their asshattery. Anc makes Vladimir Lenin look like George Washington, but you never saw him getting repwarred.

Am I gonna have to run a Classic Rep vs whatever wins this round Poll, too?

No, but it would probably be a good idea to run the poll I suggested in post 15 - a poll with all the options, multiple select, folks vote for every option they're okay with. The key point is that one should be able to vote for multiple options. That said, I imagine folks are getting a bit tired of polls.

Actually the integer will overflow, and because the math happens in PHP, not SQL, it will wrap around. ((2^31) - 1) + ((2^31) - 1) = -2, I think.

And this is exactly the part about it that chaps my ass. This recent feel-good, 'everybody is a winner and gets a trophy' horseshit. Promoted by thin skinned crybabies like Gomer who has about half the board and ignore and refuses to hear anything that doesn't fit his narrow little world view, and those who bemoan the horrors of rep war running people off while they troll other posters away with their own pictures as avatars.

    Hypocrits.

I'm not going to spend any more time on this. People tend to forget that I haven't had rep for alot longer than you would imagine. Hell, it's probably been a year, year and a half by now?

The worse thing that ever happened to the bottom feeders who thought they had finally run me off; I found out I could piss off alot more people with a post and I didn't run away like they were hoping. Garamet was even putting out feelers for thoughts on a B plan to run me off.

Regardless of whatever gets decided, I'm done with rep. It was a fun a few years ago, but life changes.

Pretend it's 127 and -128 instead of 2.1 billion. 127+1 = -128. But we wanted to add 127, not 1, so let's add another 126. -128+126 = -2. -2+127=125. 125+127=-4. And so on. You don't hit a hard cap. You just go round and round forever.

Why is rep even still being discussed?

On the contrary, I'm glad she did. Buy losing the vote the cry babies no longer get to promote the schlock idea that most of the board opposed the rep change earlier this year. At least not with any shred of credibility anyhow.

That way, hopefully, the whining will die out more quickly.

I think we need a system that gives positive rep only. I fail to see the point in neg rep. I might have used neg rep 4 or 5 times. Its pretty much beneath me to neg rep. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I believe. Though I don't believe that is the opinion of many on this board.

Most of the board DID oppose that change.

However, once the change was made, and we started to see old faces return and not half the threads on the front page were about rep or negrep or rep whining/whoring, most people, me included, kind of realized that maybe some changes for the board wouldn't be so bad...because seeing page after page of board drama is only funny for those who've been here long enough to know what the drama is about. It really shouldn't be all that WF stands for.

I'd like for rep to return to what it was, or have everyone give rep/negs regardless of reputation; however, when it all boils down, I don't come to WF for shiny green pips, nor am I hampered in my ability to call out retards for being stupid just because negs are neutral now.

Calling out a retard was easier to do with rep rather derailing the thread

And yet, that still happened way more often under the old rep system, before the people who do the most frequent calling out threw a fit and became less active. Also, you can still use rep to call people out.

I don't think most people like to see drama threads line the first couple of spots on top of the Red Room, but even without rep, that is still happening.

What was nice about rep for some people is it was sort of a release valve, where people could be negging back and fourth in old threads or whatever and drama only happened when there was a rep whine thread.

NOW, we get people using avatars of each other, threatening to sue the board, etc. I would MUCH MUCH rather this sort of stuff be confined to neg reps if all people do is say "Ha Ha, I drove you into the red" than this other stuff that gets smeared across various forums.

Rep whine threads are far superior to what has happened here lately. At least with rep whine threads, it's only about something meaningless. I enjoy seeing a good troll as much as anyone else, but there was a viciousness to this latest fiasco which, in my opinion, is not equal to what we had when people got ganged up on and neg repped into oblivion. Maybe it's too late and people have already crossed that line and restoring rep would do shit now, but that's my observation.

Scorp, your anti rep change stance has been known for sometime and you are entitled to hold your opinion, however attempting to link rep to avatar trolling??? Sorry mate, thats in your head. Your jumping on a recent issue and trying to make it something its not to suit your purposes.

    Edit: @Scorp

^ Your observation is crap. You are attempting to draw an non-existant connection between rep and drama. The reality is that people were trolling in avatars and passing personal information around by PM well before rep was ever changed. There were plenty of drama threads before rep was changed. Remember things like Ray-gate? They existed well before rep ever went missing. That was abuse of personal info and trolling by avatar, and it certainly isn't the only example of such trolling or the only instance of drama at the board over the years. Rep by no means cured it.

In fact, if drama is the issue and it related to abuses of personal info or avatars, then that is a seperate matter that can be dealt with by way of the rules.

The idea that rep was the solution is absolute crap. You cite John Castle's threats of suing people. It's an attempt at internet bullying. Well, what ganging up and neg repping? Same thing. Basically youa re trying to draw a tenuous link simply to justify the return of the toy that you and you buddies found so entertaining.

Here's the thing though, rather than hiding behind a little red square to trolling (in the hope that someone breaks down and "rep whines" or leaves the board), you're going to have to be a little bit more creative with your trolling now that the vote has gone against you. Could is be that people like yourself, Maud, et al, don't have the creativity to do it outside of the little neg rep square?

Please explain how it was easier? The current system will still show a pile of neg comments beside a retard post. Indeed in terms of attacking the individual post and derailing a thread, there is no difference

Because now Muad can't play the big warrior and drive people off the board by ganging up with others. If he wants to drive people off he now has to put in a lot more effort and post some actual content. Much easier to try and make people feel unwelcome by hiding behind a red square. :diacanu:

I know what he's talking about but his explanation was nonsense. He said call out a retard without derailing the thread. That could only really mean individual posts.

Maud and co however want to use it so that you can see automatically that someone is a moron due to their score. The problem is that you are not then really 'calling someones post out'. We also know that whilst most people in the serious red are somewhere on the spectrum (EP, Apostle, Tasvir) there are others who are just victims of what is in reality, internet bullying.

Still not sure why this is still being discussed, the vote was taken.

    Kinda like this thread? :P

    Completely agree.

This was easy to predict, every time we try to "help" the board via rep it backfires. We change it because some members are unhappy, but then we end up with other members being unhappy.

This latest change has had a rather nasty aftermath, at best it's failed to attract new members or former members. At worst it's polarized the board. Sure some former members made a cameo or two but we've lost members too. Not to say they've locked their account and made a dramatic exit, they've simply stopped participating.

In other words we gained nothing by changing rep yet again.

Going back to the previous incarnation of rep isn't even a poll option. So I say cut our losses and dump the rep system entirely. It ain't pulling people in, and it ain't making current members happy.

Fair claim, yet I'm not so sure, actual neg-rep may have helped diffuse the situation.
