I must've read a different poll. The whole point of the last thread was whether or not to keep the new system over the old system, which was made quite clear in the pages of dscussion that followed. It's a bit tenuous to now claim that it didn't offer anyone the chance to go back to the old system.

Fact is that the old system was rejected by the majority of members. The kiddies who want their favourite toy back are unhappy about this and are now acting like moody spoiled brats in claiming there has been no vote.

    Not to worry.

Tamar has no intention of listening to any poll.

I still say get rid of rep. Totally. No comments at all.

Yes it did, unless you're referring to old old rep with fewer reps per day and no staggered rep.

You two are wrong. The poll option was to go to a third third system, "old rep with functions for all" - that is, unlike in OldRep, users with negative reputation ("in the red") would still have the rep they gave out count for points. No previous system of rep has been in any poll Tamar's put up in the past few days.

They won't say it for some reason, but they are upset that the poll option was old rep but with retained functionality for all.

They want rep that takes away functionality for other people.

what do you mean? there isn't any deep meaning other than what i've said. it was a game, and now it's just a comment system. i think collecting points and piling on racist/stupid comments with neg reps was fun. it's also why i like the idea of rep "currency". i don't really do the political thing, but i like strategy games.

I understood "with functionality for all" to mean that posters in the red would still be able to use rep, just that their reps wouldn't count towards anything. Wasn't that the system we had just before the switch several months back? I thought you said it wasn't possible for posters in the red to be able to make agree/disagree reps that affect the rep score.

i don't understand what is meant by losing functionality. you mean because people in the red couldn't give rep that was worth points? how can it be a loss of functionality for them, but it's just a toy once it's taken from everyone? either rep is serious business or it's just a game.

Yeah, the way that "with functionality for all" was added, it sounded to me like there was previous consideration about removing rep functionality for folks in the red (i.e. they couldn't even leave rep comments). Clearly different people took different meanings from that. Wouldn't have changed my vote, though.

i don't really know how to articulate it, i guess. there are no losers, so how can it be a game? it's not like i have ever gone on a mad negging spree or anything so i'm not really sure why i care...it just feels like a watered-down version of something that used to be fun.

It was fun for those who accumulated points, and fun for those who liked driving people into the red. However, if you were being a fucko and being driven into the red, it was no fun at all. That's why it had to be changed, obviously. :dayton:

Actormike was no more a fucko than Sokar, to be sure.

However, his political position was far more unpopular on this board.

The fact that you continue to defend such actions is unfortunate, as it evinces quite a lack of maturity on your part.

Well that is your opinion, to be sure. And I guess if you felt that strongly about it you could've taken the time to help prop him up instead of letting him get driven into the red. So I'm guessing you didn't think he was all that great after all. :marathon:

I did have an "A-HAH" moment articulating rep, but it'll have to wait until I've slept a bit to try to put it into words.

Beyond that, there's the problem that, as I recall, being in the red actually breaks the comment system so that it proclaims agreement when you select the "disapprove" option. Even if driving people into the red were somehow fun in a non-antisocial way, a deliberate effort to reduce the functionality of the board seems like exactly the kind of thing that should be warned and not particularly tolerated.

A better argument is not everybody driven into the red was a fucko. The bigger problem was that once you're in the red your rep no longer counted.

The solution I suggested was to make every members rep count regardless of rep status.

Nope, I said there was no switch for it. Just like there is no switch to make NuRep. I had to modify the reputation system at a low level for that, and that hack is extremely similar to one that would make "old rep with functions for all" possible. The area of code that would need changing is just a few lines away from the one that was changed. The only thing I said we can't do is get rid of the points system while maintaining "agrees" and "disagrees".

Edit: if I did say either was not possible, it was strictly in the context of what we could do without hacking the board further.

Ahh, gotcha. I guess "with functions for all" needed to be explained more clearly in the previous poll, because I clearly don't have the technical understanding of the rep feature that you do.

You have every right to be rude and insulting of course, that doesn't mean you have to be, especially when I'm not acting that way towards you.
