Yes, yes, I know, your precious tin god is infallible and his Royal Decrees must not be questioned or resisted. :dayton:

Swear to god, Obama could spend 2 hours on television calling for the gassing of 6 million Americans of a certain ethnicity, it could be carried out... and you'd blame anyone and everyone other than him... for doing it wrong. Fuck's sake, man, wake up already.

I'm actually starting to come around to this. I mean, I recently read that something like 80% of America's health problems are a result of obesity. So if The Government can force us to buy health insurance For Our Own Good, the next logical step is to do something about all the fatties. Just think about it: An obesity tax would both generate huge revenues and give people incentive to lose weight. Double-plus-good!

Well, they can withold it from a tax refund...but regardless, it doesn't seem all that facist to me.

Isn't it around 90k for a family of 4 to receive a subsidy? Most families around this area of my state qualify for that and this state has taken the federal funding (though with a short delay to appease the republicans in office), so I don't really see poor people getting that much poorer due to the ACA in this area. Maybe they will become more healthy? Probably better to be healthy and poor, rather than sick and poor, or unprepared and poor. Although I'll reserve my final judgement until the program has actually had a chance to work or fail, I guess.

We could sure use to shed a few pounds around here, but you'd actually have to listen to your Doc's advice to fix that. Even with health insurance, it doesn't mean people will follow proper advice, and no they shouldn't be forced to follow the doc's advice. But some probably should...

You're talking to people who don't acknowledge taxation as legitimate. Any tax is fascist in their simple minds.

You mean why states like Ohio and Florida have chosen to fuck over their citizens? Yes, that's clear. Now, when you can show that those effects are occurring across the entire U.S., and not just in states whose legislators are assholes, get back to us.

The part where they're forcing everyone to buy something would be pretty fascist, and the condescending "for your own good" part is just a cherry on top.

So if you're cool with this, I guess you're cool with the NSA spying an American citizens, then?

Bit late, innit? Isn't it traditional to accuse new members of being duals as soon as they arrive?

Okay, so it wasn't the "threat of force" that made it facist. It's simply the fact that you either buy the insurance, or get an extra tax part.

Oh, absolutely. It also means I'm cool with burning witches, people talking on the phone in a theater, and I absolutely LOVE non sequiturs.

The extra tax part is the threat of force. I'm kind of doubting that there won't be any consequences for not paying this tax, the same as if one tries to not pay any other tax. I know your love of forcing people to do what you think is best for them might be blinding you to that, though.

But there is no threat of force. I provided a link to a very informative FAQ. If you read it and still choose to "kind of doubt" it, then have fun with that I guess.

Really? What else do you know about me?

BTW, I'm not blind to the fact that you don't believe there is no threat of force, since you...you know...came right out and said so.

I've lost my temper exactly once in 12 years on message boards, and that was when Number_6 accused me of "applauding 9/11." JC's calculated stupidity doesn't make me angry. I just thought I'd use words he could understand.

As for my post and your cute little edit, I'd ask you why you honor the state over the individual, but I don't expect an answer, any more than I expect JC to stop his nonsense.

Honoring the state over the individual? No. Just recognizing that the state is doing its job. See I don't believe that all taxes should be abolished. The state has its core functions and needs to fund them. Money's gotta come from somewhere. What I am applauding are those states who see what an economic disaster this will be, how it will hurt the very people who put it in place and whom it serves, and made the best long term decision. The state chose to not saddle the people it represents with even more costs. It did its job rather than seek political points.

Now how would you know what's traditional here? Pretty tough to pretend you're not a dual when your knowledge of the board exceeds your tenure by that much.

It's odd how some states have figured out how to make this work and others seem to be employing the Karl Rove School of Mathematics.

Neither proves JC's "point," in any event.

When something is mandatory you can hardly use the numbers of people signing up for it as an indicator of popularity.

To try is so intellectually dishonest it actually boggles the mind. That anyone would fall for that reasoning is equally jaw-dropping.

I wasn't. I was referring to the calculations individual state legislatures used to decide either "Yes, not only will this work, but we'll include the Medicaid expansion and it will cover even more people" or "OMFG, IT'S TEH WORST LEGISLATION IN TEH HISTORY OF HUMANITY!1!!"

Mine is the former, Florida is the latter.

But then all you have to do is look around the Red Room to realize who can't handle numbers.

Don't worry about it @Tuan Castle is my dual anyway. I felt the need to come up with a "writer" personality that doesn't have a good grasp of language who liked politics but didn't have an understanding of people.

It was for a black comedy piece I was trying out; but unfortunately its taken a life of its own.
