Saw that. It's well done, but definitely goes against the events of Star Trek III.

First, the Enterprise clearly burned up in the atmosphere. And second, the Genesis planet broke apart as it was unstable.

    Still, pretty cool fan film.

TNG's "Eye Of The Beholder" was on last night.

Noticed a weird change to Trek's view of ESP.
In TOS, all Starfleet personnel are tested for ESP, and some humans even have high ratings, and Miranda Jones can even do fucking mindmelds!
In TNG, you absolutely have to at least have a Betazed/Vulcan great-grandma.
I mean, I get it, they wanted to try to sweep some of the woo under the rug, but...the genie was out of the bottle.

If this is the same cut that was released on DVD some years back (not on Blu-ray so far because the updated effects were rendered in SD) it's actually quite an improvement on both the theatrical release and the 80s-era extended edition.

That Episode of TNG where Roddenberry refused to let a little boy cry over losing his mother. Data is probing the question of why it matters how well you knew the dead person, and can you imagine:

RIKER: We feel a loss more intensely when it's a friend.
DATA: But should not the feelings run as deep regardless of who has died? '
RIKER: Well, Stalin had a saying--
    DIRECTOR: CUT!

    "The Hunted"

The mighty Enterprise-D, the Federation flagship, loses track of a stupid little shuttlecraft going around a little asteroid like Elmer Fudd chasing Bugs Bunny around a tree.

Starfleet Stupid: Data finally suggests "well I guess we could adjust the sensors so they aren't affected by the interference from the poles or whatever?" like that shouldn't have been one of the first things they did on arrival at the planet as part of SOP, and Picard comes and stands over him looking angry like "why wasn't this done the moment it became a problem?" Good question, Captain.

During the tussle in the transporter room, one of the guards comes lunging off of the transporter pad and you can see the pad bend under his foot.

Did they ever have Frakes record the "Space, the final frontier" opening? I bet he could have delivered it well.

They really should have done that for BOBW Part 2, just to mess with people.

Make it a double feature with 2001, and you can be in a weeklong coma.

    Depends on the seasons.
Early seasons, squishy pads, later seasons, hard pads.

Watching the remastered episodes you can see lots of set detail that passed muster in SD but looks bad in HD. Bad paint jobs, less than stellar carpentry, etc.

It reminds me of how many teevee stations had to upgrade their news sets in 2007/2008 because the old, cheaply constructed ones looked like ass in 1080.

I posted a while back about how you could see the wood grain on a set piece in TOS: Charlie X. Here's the screen shot of it. It was one of the first episodes I watched that remastered.

There were several scenes in TNG where cardboard was placed on the displays because too much light was reflected, patched or stained carpet.

I saw a TNG episode a while back where Geordi is standing by some kind of console (in a cargo bay?) and you could see how the edges of the set piece were bent, like it fell over and they didn't bother fixing it.

In 1988, I can remember walking by a podium being made out of 2X4s and felt, that looked insanely shabbily made in front of a building on the college campus where I was a student. I later found out that VP George HW Bush stopped by and gave a speech, when I watched a replay of the speech on TV, I couldn't tell that the thing was nothing more than felt and 2X4s that had been built a few hours before the speech was given.

I've noticed a lot of older teevee shows and even some motion pictures that have focus problems when viewed in HD. Like in a closeup a person's eyes will be out of focus but the hair towards the back of their head is sharp. Not that apparent in SD, though.

RLM picked this up too. They noticed screws loose and other mistakes you barely notice on the consoles and such. I’ve looked for them, but it’s mostly background stuff. Apparently you can see things like that in the TOS movies as well.

    "Farpoint" is on.
Never noticed, but Data has pink human lips in this one.
The android makeup was subtler, then they just went ahead, and slathered it with a paint roller.

I understand that makeup got an update as well. Flaws that are invisible on analog NTSC are quite apparent in 1080.

I heard somewhere that almost all of the medium and close-up shots of Spock in TOS had to be updated for the HD release: they had to digitally remove the visible seams on the ear appliances.

I noticed that several times, in one episode they line was apparent along with a obvious difference in the color between the ear piece and Nimoy's ears.

In the episode, The Man Trap, looks like the makeup department wasn't clear on Spock having green blood, well only green blood. There is green blood, but the cut itself is red.
