What amuses me is the recurring notion that "This is the Red Room. You HAVE to act a certain way." It's like watching a Method actor going through all sorts of contortions in the green room to get into character. Funnily enough, the best and brightest behave the same way across every forum. Which begs the question of what the is compensating for. Or maybe they just think it's one of those occult rules that were set down in the behavior of the trolls who went before them.
Oh, good. Yeah, I don't get that. The Red Room is the way it is in case you want to act a certain way at a certain time. Which I generally don't, so I don't, ever.
Exactly. Which is why you're among the best and the brightest, as opposed to Mr. Pretension here: Here you go, little fella. Maybe this will help: http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/CMS_FAQ/Whichvs.That/Whichvs.That01.html
Then you failed to learn that grammar is not politics. At least one of these should accommodate your biases.
Ah, there we go. See, that's what I get for letting my browser log me in. I had an account on here from last year when I thought my old account had been deleted or damaged, but Lanz had fixed it. My browser, used to my logging in at TBBS (same software), logged me in as J. Allen, that account that I ended up not needing. Yes, I'll be reposting this in the Help Desk.
Could be fun. You could always keep two totals as well... so you had an "all-time" rep and a "season" rep. That is, of course, provided that you give some tiny shred of a shit about rep. Otherwise it's only good for making people who do care about it upset.
Comparing rep to guns..... Gotta be a first.... Should the left on this board be advocating an assault rep ban? "it looks scary. ban it!" - Jenee
I found this interesting...... https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php/308495-How-does-Reputation-Power-work This actually means that I'm not getting all the rep I deserve. After I was unfairly banned my original account was deleted, so I had to register a new one. But my actual join date should be years earlier. That means I've lost tons of rep power that I'm legitimately entitled to. Maybe Lanz can help? For all those people throwing out good ideas, Some of the ideas have been really good but the staff is leaving out one important fact... They don't know how to physically implement any of those ideas! As far as I can tell no one around here knows how to write mods. So there are two only 2 options, (1) Install one of the already made mods I listed a page or two back. (2) Alter the control panel options listed in the quote above. I think that's all the power we have to do. Correct me if I'm wrong.
The third and easiest option is to ban the annoying fuck who keeps wanting to install hacks on the board for rep. Oh.....that's you BTW in case you were wondering.
I didn't really like any of those mods (beyond the trophy mod which was unconnected to rep) I just thought I'd list options we could do instead of things we can't.
Personally this thread has been sort of a learning curve for me. I had no idea red bars meant zero rep powers. I'm in favor of a level playing field. Rep resets every 6 months, everyone has the same amount of rep power.
Those options were available at first, but it results in people giving a single pos/neg rep that can be worth hundreds or thousands of points. A 1/1 ratio just seems fairest and easiest in the long run.
Okay. You're wrong. We have all those options disabled, except the one plateau that says rep doesn't count at all below 50 posts. While I don't know how to write plugins from scratch, I can edit them and add to them, and I have made several mods to the board software that can't be done from a plugin, some common (disabling the JavaScript alert after you rep someone), some not (adding a third display for 0-power rep that made it say "comments" instead of "agrees", the smilies-in-QR, hide threads by ignored posters (actually, that might be in a plugin... I don't remember), etc.). This is why we wait pretty much as long as possible between doing even minor version software upgrades, because most of that has to be redone each time. Actually technically I CAN write a plugin from scratch, I just don't know how to save it to the XML archive format they're distributed from on vb.org.
Yeah, you could. I could write everyone's parts. It's not that hard. They're not exactly complicated characters to write for. It'd be like writing for "facts of life", or "full house", but fortunately dirty, and not for kids.
Okay, smart guy. I officially challenge you to do it. Do a whole thread on whatever topic, posting as at least fifteen different Forgers.
