What about Shooter, Tex, or Volpone? Pretty sure they've been involved in rep wars before, and all 3 of them still post the same way that they always did.

    Likewise for me.

In other words, turning rep off won't change anything, just like trying to move political discussions to the green room didn't change anything either.

What WILL change things will be a bigger push by everyone in general to have more decent discussions.

I don't know. I'm honestly not sure I ever noticed any of those four acting out in a rep war, but then again I don't care about rep wars as long as they don't interfere with the WF I like. When they take away posters like Peter and Scorp, or introduce Sokar-like rhetorics into general threads, they hurt my personal enjoyment of the board. Whether that is the same as anyone else's enjoyment I don't know, but I tend to think there are many here who like heated debates and dislike merely generating heat.

You arrogant fucking piece of shit.

You can't find a single word to say about the spam of Liet, 14th Doctor, Mewa or Diacanu. I wonder why that is? Explain the last sentence to me. What exactly is 'spelled out' clearly in the threads trolling my family members?

NOBODY OWES YOU DEBATE. NOBODY IS REQUIRED TO POST THE WAY YOU WANT THEM TO.

    Get. The. Fuck. Over. Yourself.

    Are you kidding? :wtf:

I'm not going to reveal PM details, but you are so fucking wrong about this.

Even Scorp is involved in all kinds of threads. A lot more than you are.

I also notice your not complaining about Liet, 14thDoc, actormike, or Dikky, Alphaman, and a few others....all of whom have been involved in rep wars in the past.

I am wrong about what? That I've never been bothered by these four members' rep wars? That Scorp would post more if he didn't spend as much time in rep wars?

I'll say it a third time: I'm not complaining about members being involved in rep wars. I'm complaining about rep wars detracting from debate. From where I sit, Shooter, Tex, Volpone, you, Liet, 14th, Mike, Diacanu and Alpha are all contributing to debate, and not ducking out of debate in favour of rep war.

I'm not sure how that works or what Peter's situation is, but I don't see how Obama and the economy can stop someone from posting two or three lines contributing to a debate, but still allow them to post as much text in a rep comment.

I asked you a question, asswipe.

What exactly does this garbage mean? I want to know. Don't whine about 'no debate' when you can't even answer a simple goddamn question.

And from where I sit, Sokar, Scorp and Peter have all posted exactly the same, rep or no rep since I've been here.

Peter, AFAIK is caught up with other things....but I'm not really sure. I just know that prior to the economy tanking, he didn't post much either.

I often chatted with him, and asked him a couple times why he doesn't post more. His answer was always that he was busy with work.

Back in Nov-Jan, I was busy with work too, and I only had time to come on WF and rep people.

    Seriously?

You don't see how less that five minutes hitting someone's last posts with negs and leaving takes less time and effort than reading threads and participating in discussions?

    Well, there it is folks.....

Packard, the self-annointed King of Meaningful Debate at Wordforge stepped into a thread I wasn't even participating in, took a shot at me multiple times and then wandered away despite me asking him a direct question.

Isn't that what you accuse me of doing, buddy?

    You're a fucking hypocrite.

Not really, when a short reply on topic to an opening post and the kind of detailed abuse he directs at posts take about the same time.

It's one thing to ignore posters or posts that aren't worth the effort (in fact we have a feature to make that easier), quite another to not like a poster or discussion and instead of ignoring, do you best to silence them/it.

So, as Packard said, not the same thing.

Liet, 14thDoc and Garamet have derailed more good threads than Sokar ever has.

To me, that is a bigger problem that 'rep' ever will be.

I'm not specifically pointing at you though.

I'm talking about all those people who think Sokar is the reason WF suddenly sucks.

I dug up around 100 threads Mewa started, every single one designed to be some sort of troll against someone he didn't like.

So, who really is at fault?

I won't count out who ruins how many threads, but I certainly agree that that is the bigger problem; only I see rep war as conducive to that attitude. 14th and Liet, at the very least used to contribute before the Red Room became Sok-ed. And so did and does garamet when the debate is there for her to join in. None of them are innocent, and neither am I. But I'm not trying to assign blame here, but point out structures that contribute to the problem, and yes, of course the examples that bother me more are easier for me to describe.

I honestly don't care who is at fault. What I want to see is a return to conditions that elicit useful contributions from those posters. I know that Mewa, Liet, Scorp and many others have it in them. If the same proves to be true of Sokar, so much the better.

I'm sure some of the people who have been here longer than I have can attest to the fact that Liet has been trolling it up for a LONG time.

As for 14thDoc? Around the election, he went from semi-interesting, to ape-shit stupid.

Don't know why, but I figure living in Edmonton that long tends to make people that way.

Again, I have no problem with a good troll. Its the hypocrisy that annoys the hell out of me.

I WANT to agree.....really I do, but going through Mewa's posting history, he reminds me a lot of Faceman.

A whole lot of posts....10% of them actually contribute something useful.

Of course, he could change, but Mewa is Mewa.

I honestly doubt that WF was much different back in April of 2004.

Or in 2005, 2006, 2007. People will always troll, people will always insult. The only way we can change that is to ignore them, or push their threads off the front page with better discussions.

No, I would guess you wouldn't want to count how many people 'ruin' threads because it isn't going to help your argument at all or at least the focus of your argument, me. Not to mention they're all people that you agree with politically, so it isn't going to happen.

What was Liet contributing when he created 'Mrs. Kitchens' to troll Dayton? What does he contribute when he posts picture spam from his vast gay picture collection in threads he doesn't like (something he's been doing for YEARS)?

How about 14th Doctor? What was he 'contributing' when I upset him with my mock celebration over Obama's election last year and he organized Dan Leach, Alphaman, Mewa, Henry, Nutbird, Cassandra and a couple of other in a rep war against me? Maybe that's an example of 'righteous' rep war in your book? I bet you have no fucking clue that I never bothered with 14th Doctor before then. But you don't want to hear that somebody other than me starts rep wars, do you?

But before me, those were some fantastic posters. Weren't they? Nobody had ever thought of posting 5000 facepalm pictures in threads before 14th came along.

Yeah, you are trying to assign blame, but only the people who you disagree with.

    Get bent, fella.

Actually, no. He has always been quite a ways over on the left, but he has changed gradually over the last couple of years, basically due to the election.

The first phase was that he became more and more of a "spin-master" for the Democrats. Lately he has toned that down somewhat by pointing out more explicitely the bad things the Dems do, but he still has the idea that everything the Republicans and/or conservatives do is evil. He used to be much less extreme on that.

That led him to coupling just about every opinion he posted with a "anyone who says otherwise is a total fool" sort of statement, which of course annoyed those who disagreed with him.

The "troll war" escalated in a vicious circle from there. Like the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. in the arms race during the Cold War, neither side was willing to back down and both sides were absolutely convinced the other side had started it.

A couple of years ago, he was actually one of those who contributed very much to the board. Long after several others had gone down the trolling path, he could still articulate the leftist view very reasonably. It's really hard to say whose "fault" it is that he turned from that to an explicit desire to drive several right-wing posters away from the board, but it certainly is not what he has been all along. I've known him (as an internet poster, that is) for many years and though we don't agree on everything by any means, he used to contribute very much to the board. It is simply wrong to paint him as someone who was never here to do anything but troll. He pretty much became that of late, but it hasn't always been the case.

You do realize that there are threads still here from a couple of years ago, right? It isn't like we can't do a search and see that he isn't really any different now than he was then.
